Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park is a great place to walk your dog and appreciate an amazing view of neighboring Manhattan. This park extends to the water, making it great for watersports, but it also has an extensive picnic area perfect for BBQing. Leashed dogs can enjoy a fun day with the family. For something more vigorous, take the Riverfront Trail on an extended loop by the water and through a short wooded area. The walk is paved, flat, and fairly easy to walk. The view along the way is also amazing. Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park is a must see for Beacon visitors.

The Pandorica is a casual dining restaurant in Beacon’s Business District that’s perfect for dogs to join. The food is American, but British influence is plain, and for people who caught the reference in the restaurant’s name, the menu items also sometimes allude to everyone’s favorite Time Lord. Down the street, Beacon Bread Company serves up French cafe classics as well as fresh baked goods every day. They have a small patio area where canine customers are welcome. Go a little further to Cafe Amarcord, where New American food is served to outdoor, dog-friendly tables at lunch and dinner. At any of these Business District restaurants, dogs will love their outdoor, people-watching friendly seating.

North Tree Streets
The corner of Memorial Park in the North Trees Streets neighborhood of Beacon holds Beacon Dog Park. It’s a great place for Beacon residents to go to let their dogs run off leash and socialize with other dogs. It’s not as great for visitors who are just passing through, as it does require a seasonal fee to use the park. If you don’t think you’ll be in Beacon long enough to fully enjoy the off leash dog park, try the walking trails at Memorial park instead. They’re an easy walk and a great way to exercise your dog on leash.

Mountain Side Section
If your dog needs a lot to tire her out at night, you’re going to want to pack your backpack with snacks, water, and a doggie bowl and head to Mountain Side Section. Start at Mountain Beacon Trailhead for an occasionally steep climb up the foothills of Mount Beacon. If that’s enough for you, you can turn back when Mountain Beacon Trailhead runs into Beacon Overlook, a very popular trail in the area. The distance to Beacon Overlook is only a mile, but is moderate difficulty and up. The Overlook is not easy either, but the views cannot be beat.

South Trees Streets
Madam Brett Park in South Trees Streets is a great place to walk your dog on leash. The park offers a little bit of something for everyone, and is guaranteed to tire your pup out. If you only need an amble to wake up in the morning, try the park’s riverside trail. It’s a smooth, low difficulty path perfect for a gentle walk. If your dog needs to calm down, head deeper into the park. Some of the trails are more adventurous, winding through trees and over wooden bridges. Dogs will love the wildlife, and it’s a great break from the city.
