Beaufort was founded in 1711, which makes it number two in the ten oldest cities in South Carolina. It is actually on Port Royal Island in the Sea Islands. It is well-known for its beautiful location and historic architecture and military presence. Beaufort was chosen as Best Small Southern Town in Southern Living Magazine, and one of the top 50 adventure towns by National Geographic Magazine. There are two county parks for pups in Beaufort. Burton Wells Dog Park on Burton Wells Road is an amazing place to take Fido while you are in town. It has distinct sections designated by size, specifically for big and small dogs, shade, dog waste stations, a pond, and it is fenced in for safety. Habersham Park on Habersham Park Road has a fenced area to let your pup socialize and run with the crowd. There are benches, restrooms, water, and plenty of space to play. The dogs are very friendly, and so are the humans.

Chaplin Park on Cast Net Drive is a dog park within a community park. There are tons of amenities there like a beach, basketball, pavilions, playgrounds, walking trails, ball fields, tennis, and so much more. You and Fido will never get bored or run out of things to do.

Let your dog know he’s headed to Burton Wells Dog Park and watch his tail go wild! Located in the neighborhood of Burton, this deluxe dog park is a favorite among local canines. There are two fenced areas that lead to a lake, so pups who love to swim will be in heaven. Your furry friend will love sniffing around and meeting new friends. There is plenty of space for a game of fetch or chase. If you want some on leash time, check out the paths at the neighboring Burton Wells Park. The Spanish Moss Trail is also nearby. This 10 mile trail connects Beaufort to Port Royal and runs through marshlands and past several historical buildings.

Port Royal is just five miles south of Beaufort and well worth a visit. Your furry friend will love walking through the Cypress Wetlands. Clip on your dog’s leash and head out onto the boardwalk for some great wildlife viewing. Keep your eyes open for turtles, lizards and snakes. A variety of birds and ducks will get your pup’s attention. Be sure to head over to the boardwalk that overlooks the Harbor River. A four story tower provides the ideal viewing spot for dolphins, otters and raptors. You can also just saunter down the path and enjoy the stunning waterfront views.
