If you're looking for pet-friendly attractions and activities in Bethesda, Maryland, you're in luck! The growing town is home to many unique opportunities for some outdoor time with your pooch.

The local Cabin John Park contains a plethora of activities, from nature trails and hiking paths to tennis courts and a year-round ice skating rink. The town's dog park is also located within the complex. About a half acre large, the park is fully fenced-in with a six-foot fence. A quiet, shady park, the Cabin John Dog Park is sure to delight both dogs and owners.

Bethesda is located close by to several trails, including the North Bethesda Trail, which is a 4-mile trail that goes over several busy freeways and local forests, creating a unique path that connects areas that were once isolated. For a longer trail, try the Rock Creek Trail. Over 14 miles long, the trail begins in Lake Needwood Regional Park and ends in at the Washington DC border.

Bethesda hosts an annual doggie-themed street festival that helps raise funds for community organizations. With over 5,000 annual human participants and hundreds of canine friends, the festival is one of Bethesda's largest events! Awards are given to dogs in several categories, including the owner and dog who look most alike, best strut, best trick, and favorite mutt!

While not technically in Bethesda, Cabin John Dog Park is too woof-derful to pass up. Located just 2.5 miles (or a six minute drive) from thriving Ashburton, this park offers amazing off-leash space and on-leash trails. First, let your dog work off some energy in the off-leash area. Walk, play fetch, or make use of the climbing area. Then head into the main park, Cabin John Regional Park, for four miles of hiking trails. Just watch out: your pup might have to share the road with a horse! Ashburton itself boasts a low population, but its great location makes it a snap to travel around the greater Bethesda area.

This family friendly side of Bethesda has a lot of single family homes, and with them come single (and double, and triple) family dogs. Alta Vista hosts the parking area for the North Bethesda Trail. This former rail line has been converted into a walking and hiking trail. Previously a connecting corridor for rail lines, this trail is now a great park and an excellent place to stretch your legs. Leashed dogs are both permitted and encouraged. Rock Creek Trail is an alternative if you prefer four legs to trains. Rock Creek is a multi-use trail closer to Kensington than downtown Bethesda.

Bannockburn is just a stone’s throw from two amazing parks: Glen Echo Park which is just across the border in Glen Echo, Maryland, and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park. Glen Echo Park is notable for both its expansive grounds and involved community. There are events scheduled there throughout the year for the community, and four-legged members are welcome! Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park is a multi-use trail that follows a canal path offering beautiful views during your entire walk. Bannockburn offers great exercise opportunities for pups who prefer to stay on-leash and close to your side.

Whitehall Manor is snuggled up like a puppy in a warm blanket to Woodmont Triangle, but the neighborhoods have an important distinction. Whitehall Manor is home to residential houses and plenty of dogs. It’s also home to Mon Ami Gabi, where you can share lunch with your best friend on the patio. It’s blocks away from two B&Bs who love dogs as much as you do. It’s also close to Elm Street Park. Here, leashed dogs are welcome, and the park itself is great for taking laps or strolling. Whitehall Manor has the proximity to luxury your dog knows they deserve.

Woodmont Triangle is a downtown spot where Wisconsin Avenue and Old Georgetown Road intersect. It’s filled with eateries, boutique shops, and interesting sights. More importantly, however, these few blocks boast not one, not two, but three dog-friendly eateries within blocks of each other! Whether your dog has a taste for tacos or is more of a sushi-hound, Woodmont Triangle has restaurants that cater to both of you. California Tortilla, Hanaro Restaurant, and Mia’s Pizza offer dog-friendly outdoor seating and, in some cases, tasty treats for canine friends. These commercial blocks don’t have many residents, but the greater neighborhood is pupping up more and more.
