Blair is a city in Washington County, Nebraska that's home to more than 8,000 people. It's also part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area, and the city was incorporated in 1872. Nestled along the Missouri River and just 20 miles from Omaha, Blair is perfectly positioned to provide its residents everything they could want in a town! Within Blair's 5.5 square miles, there's a hospital, a variety of businesses, restaurants, and shops, as well as plenty of parks and outdoor spaces to enjoy on more than 150 acres of park land. Blair is yet to have its own off-leash dog park, but there are plenty of on-leash activities to enjoy in town with your dog!

You won't want to miss visiting Black Elk-Neihardt Park when you're in Blair. There are more than 80 acres of rolling hills and other natural features to explore in this park that overlooks Blair and the Missouri River valley. There are several trails with different surfaces running throughout the park, so you can choose between paved trails, nature trails, and wood chip trails. Your dog can trek these trails with you while they're on a leash, and they can also join you in other areas of the park as well. When it comes time for an off-leash adventure, there are several dog parks just a short drive from Blair!

If you drive 20 miles south of Blair, you'll arrive in Northwest Omaha, an area of Omaha that's home to several residential neighborhoods and parks. Just east of the Woodlyn Park neighborhood, you'll find the Hefflinger Dog Park. This was Omaha's first off-leash park, and it includes a five-acre space for all dogs to interact, as well as a two-acre area reserved just for small pets. Hefflinger Dog Park is open from dawn to dusk, and it also features a water fountain, waste disposal supplies, and seating areas. Some visitors note that this dog park gets very muddy after it rains, so be sure to bring a towel to clean up messy paws.

Hanscom Park is an area of southeastern Omaha that's just 30 miles from Blair. This historic neighborhood has tree-lined streets with beautiful homes, as well as churches, restaurants, and businesses. It's also home to its namesake park, which is one of the oldest parks in the city. There is more than 50 acres of gardens and green space in Hansom Park, as well as playgrounds, sports fields and courts, and an off-leash dog park. The Hanscom Park Dog Park has three different areas: one for all dogs, one for big dogs, and one just for the little ones! There's also running water available in the warmer months of the year, as well as doggy bags and seating areas.

Chalco is a suburb of southwestern Omaha, and it's home to more than 11,000 people. In half an hour, you and your dog can drive to this part of town and arrive at the Chalco Hills Recreation Area. This 1,186-acre park includes a 246-acre lake, as well as several different trails. Dogs are welcome to explore the park off-leash in many areas, but be advised that the off-leash areas aren't entirely fenced-in. You and your dog can explore the hiking trails together or sit and have a picnic and take in the scenery. Make sure to bring your own water and waste disposal supplies when you visit Chalco Hills!

Another one of Blair's great parks can be found in the city's south-central region. Ralph Steyer Park was named after the city's long-time forester, and the many unique trees in the park are a tribute to his love and knowledge of trees. Within Steyer Park, you'll find a swimming pool, a skate park, picnic shelters, barbecue and grill facilities, and two playgrounds. Your dog can join you at Steyer Park, but they must remain on their leash at all times. This park is conveniently located near one of the city's veterinary offices, so it's a good place to reward your dog for their good behavior after a checkup!
