Bossier City is rich with history, originally serving as a plantation in the 1830s for James Cane. Once crude oil was discovered in 1908, Bossier developed quickly as the major player within the oil patch. Nowadays, Bossier City is quite popular for local tourism as there have been a few major developments at the coin of the major casinos. These include the CenturyLink Center, which has hosted the NHL and NCAA events, as well as Louisiana Boardwalk, which hosts a variety of stores including Levi's, Kay Jewelers, Justice, and Fuddruckers.

If you’re planning a splendid weekend in Bossier City or an exciting weekend in its sister-city, Shreveport, you’re going to need a hotel that’s not only nice looking but nice on the wallet as well. Hampton Inn Shreveport Bossier City is a pet-friendly hotel that has rooms starting at $69 per night, plus a $50 pet fee per stay. Two pets less than 50 pounds are allowed per room, but they cannot be left alone in the room at any time. Free hot breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and a swimming pool are just a few of the amenities this hotel has to offer.

Another pet-friendly hotel that’s easy on the wallet is the La Quinta Inn Bossier City. Rooms start at just $49 per night, and there is no pet fee. Two pets less than 50 pounds are allowed per room, and well-behaved pets may be left alone if the situation arises. Some of the amenities provided at La Quinta Inn Bossier City include free breakfast, a fitness center, and a swimming pool.

If you’d rather stay in a suite instead of a plain hotel room, the TownPlace Suites by Marriott Shreveport Bossier City. Rooms start at $89 per night, with a $50 pet fee per stay. Two pets less than 30 pounds are allowed per room, and additional pets are welcome if prior approval is given by the hotel. A fitness center, swimming pool, and a free breakfast are included in your stay.

At only two miles from Bossier City, you will find not one, but two dog-friendly locations in the city of Shreveport. The first place you need to check out is the Shreveport Dog Park. This 4-acre park is located in a busy park area along the river. You will always see other dogs and people in this area, so it may be overwhelming for shy dogs. The next place you need to see is the Spirit of the Red. This is not a park, but a very informational cruise where dogs are welcome! During the cruise, you and your furry friend will see all sorts of animals, including alligators.

These trails are historically preserved and a wonderful place to take your dog for a walk. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy provides maps and guides to anyone visiting the trails. However, this is only a pet-friendly location, not an off-leash park. Make sure you take a leash, plenty of water and doggie poop bags. Also, since the trails are so vast, you may want to wear your comfortable walking shoes!

If you want to take a day trip to another city with your dog, head to Texarcana with your furry friend. It’s a little under an hour and 15 minutes, but Bringle Lake Park is definitely worth the drive. You and your leashed pal can explore the trails within this gorgeous 7-acre park. Don’t forget to pack a couple of fishing poles -- you can fish off one of the two ramps. Bring the kids, too! There’s a covered children’s playground here. Because this isn’t a dog park, you’ll need to bring your own water and doggie waste bags. Be sure to practice good petiquette and clean up after your pup.
