Boulder is one of the most dog-friendly places in Colorado with more than 23,000 dogs. There are many places to enjoy in Boulder for you and the pooch. If you like to hike, McClintock Trail to Chautauqua Ranger Cottage is good for beginners. It is two and a half miles of pretty easy terrain that reaches an elevation of 5,697 feet. This is in Chautauqua Park off 9th Street.

If you want a more challenging hike, try the Mount Sanitas Loop 3.1 mile Trail off Mapleton by the Mapleton Medical Center. It is 6m863 feet at the summit, and you should pack plenty of water. This is a very steep hike with a lot of rock and gravel, but definitely worth it for the views at the top.

Boulder also has some great dog parks. Chautauqua Park on 9th Street has a picnic area, playground, and plenty of hiking trails on 80-acres. Coot Lake on 63rd Street is a huge lake with a nature reserve area where you can see plenty of waterfowl and other wildlife. You can fish in certain areas, and Fido can swim on the east and south shores of the lake. There are also trails, restrooms, and water available. When you get tired, you can stay in one of the dog-friendly hotels such as the Millennium Harvest House or Best Western on 28th and Holiday Inn on Broadway. Enjoy your stay in Boulder.

Located east of downtown Boulder, Howard Heuston Dog Park is open for your four-legged friend’s enjoyment from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. If you want to let your pooch run free, there is a 1.25-acre off-leash area marked by yellow poles but make sure to keep your eyes on your precious pup as there is no fence surrounding this area. If you are wandering the rest of the park area, make sure to keep Fido on that leash. The park remains quiet throughout the day, picking up on the weekends and after 5 p.m. when the office workers are out and about. Another great dog park located on Valmont Road is the Valmont Dog Park. Inside the Valmont Park, a pup-tacular enclosed area gives your pooch the chance to run off some energy after being cooped up all day! If you are taking Fido for some vigorous exercise, be sure to take some H2O as the water in the park is only available in the warmer months. If you want to join in with your fur-baby’s exercise, then perhaps a stroll around the park’s bicycle trails with Fido on a leash is what you’re after. And remember, keep that petiquette in check. Leave the park cleaner than you found it and make sure to remove anything left behind by your pooch. After all, no one wants to see that!
