Cicero Swamp Wildlife Management Area is the place to go if you and your furry friend want to make an adventure outside of the typical dog park in the city. The 3787 acres lies right outside Bridgeport. Admission is free, and you and you pooch have access to an endless number of hiking trails. Other activities that are popular include bird watching, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing and trapping. Looking for someplace you and you furry loved one can take a long walk? Canalway Trail - Old Erie Canal State Park is a part of the 1,600 rail-trails that used to be railroad corridors. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that works to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors, is a major supporter. The entire trail stretches 279.5 miles and goes through 13 different New York counties. The trail passes through East Syracuse, about 10 miles south of Bridgeport. The park offers other activities, too, such as, picnicking, canoeing, bicycling, fishing, horseback riding and snowmobiling. The park is open year-round.

Rotary's Canine Corral at Chapman Park is a classic dog park experience and the only one you’ll find in the city. Two separate gated areas -- one for smaller dogs, one for larger dogs – allow your canine to fit in and roam freely, regardless of size. After you pup gets some exercise in the off-leash park, sit down at one of the picnic areas for a nice lunch together and enjoy the Upstate New York air. There are also public bathrooms and benches. While you dog enjoys some off-leash fun, you can admire the gorgeous views of Oneida Lake. Chapman Park is open daily from 9 AM to 8 PM.
