Well-known for its annual and infamous tomato-throwing contest -- which literally paints some parts of the town red! -- Brighton is a northeastern suburb of Denver nestled on the banks of the South Platte River. This charming city balances a rich cultural heritage with the cozy, close-knit atmosphere of a small town. You will love the dog-friendly attitude of the city center and the warm embrace of the city's pet-friendly hotels, dog park, and three veterinary hospitals.

If you don't have a yard where you can exercise and play with your pup, head to Happy Tails Dog Park, located in the southeastern corner of the city.  You will meet plenty of locals here, so get your pooch off their leash and prepare to socialize a lot. The dog park features a large grassy, fenced area to have enjoy some pawesome off-leash playtime meeting old friends or making new ones!

Although Brighton has a few pet-friendly places and spaces of its own, you can find more just a short drive away in neighboring towns.

The northern part of Lafayette, off Baseline Road, is almost entirely occupied by three large recreation areas – Josephine Roche Open Space, Rothman Park, and Lafayette Great Park. Leashed dogs are welcome in all three, but our favorite is Lafayette Great Park. Can you guess why? Because it has its very own dog park, of course! The Great Bark Dog Park features approximately 6 acres of space for off-leash play and socialization, as well as a separate section for small breeds to run and romp. Benches are available for humans, but there are no drinking water facilities, so please bring your own.
