But for a good off-leash run, you will have to travel north to Lyndhurst, a town near the calm stream of the Passaic River. Lyndhurst Dog Park is a beautiful fenced area for mutts set inside Riverside County Park, a riverfront green spot with multiple trails and plenty of daily visitors, both of the human and canine variety! The dog park has two separate sections for active and shy mutts, and features benches, drinking water, and even ice cream trucks where you can grab a sweet treat on a hot day.
Brookdale Park is a furrific park located in the friendly Brookdale neighborhood of Bloomfield, New Jersey. This park is home to live music events in summer, athletic fields, playgrounds, and a dog park. Brookdale Dog Park has everything a hound may need! Let your pooch show off his speed and agility on the obstacle course, make new friends in one of the two separate areas for small and large pups, or relax in the shade with you. Hungry? Grab some ice cream at Rita’s Italian Ice, or treat yourself to a freshly made, hot bagel at the outdoor tables of Hot Bagels Abroad.
The eastern part of Cedar Grove, NJ has the pawfect place for a long hike in nature. Mills Reservation County Park occupies almost 160 acres and has a variety of walking trails on preserved land inhabited with wildlife. Feel free to explore the area with your leashed pup, starting at the bottom of the hills and gradually making your way up to enjoy breathtaking views of New York City in the distance. The hikes are mostly moderate, so you won't have much trouble getting to the top. Even though the park is huge and quiet, you will meet plenty of explorers and other dog owners traveling with their hounds.
On the outskirts of Clifton, you will find Lexington Avenue, which will lead you to Passaic on the way south. At the intersection of Lexington and Randolph Avenues, you'll find a stunning public park with an off-leash dog area! Nash Park is a furrific place for dog-friendly fun. The dog park is just a few years old, but has already earned a reputation for being a nice, shaded and fenced spot for active mutts to burn some energy and make some new canine friends. The huge green area has plenty of grass, benches for humans, and drinking water facilities for canines.
In the western part of Leonia, you'll find a huge recreation area that's loved by locals. Overpeck County Park, nestled on Overpeck Creek, is a park with more than 800 acres of open green space. This park is home to waterfront activities, playgrounds and about 5 miles of walking trails winding throughout the area. But, unlike most vast nature parks, Overpeck Park is home to an off-leash doggie playground! The designated dog area includes two separate spots for large and small canines, benches and plenty of shade where Fido can cool off after all that chasing.
Leonia’s downtown is situated between the extensive Overpeck County Park, Old Bergen Avenue, and I-95 Express. Wood Park, located at the very heart of town, is home to a pawesome dog park where your mutt can go dog wild off-leash. Leonia Dog Park, which is known to locals as Lakeview Park, is an extremely friendly area where local pups and their parents go to socialize and play! This is a pawpular park among Leonia's canine residents, so your pooch is sure to find some new friends here.
