Primarily a Washington, D.C. suburb, the town of Chevy Chase, Maryland lies on the border of Washington and Montgomery County, Maryland. The area started out as unincorporated farmland, but has seen significant development throughout the past century. This small suburb is popular among families with nearly half of the households having children at home. There is only one veterinarian in this small community, but there are several others spread throughout the metropolitan area.

When you and your pup need some exercise, check out the Capital Crescent Trail. This beautiful trail is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and runs near the historic C&O Canal. It spans 11 miles through Montgomery and Washington Counties, and features an asphalt and crushed stone surface that is easy on sensitive paws.

If you are hungry, stop by one of the area’s many restaurants with Fido-friendly outdoor seating. Potomac Pizza has been serving up delicious pizza since 1978, and it’s a local favorite with plenty of pet-friendly seating. When you are in the Chevy Chase Section Five / Chevy Chase Section Three neighborhood, plan to visit Rock Creek Trail. This multi-use trail is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, and it’s a great place to go for a walk with your four-legged best friend. It spans 14 miles through Montgomery County and features an asphalt surface. The route passes through a mostly wooded corridor, and it’s a great place to escape from city life for a few hours. There is plenty of parking along the route, and the trail is mostly flat, making it ideal for walkers of all skill levels.

Visit Clyde’s of Chevy Chase for a mix of bistro favorites, seasonal favorites and global cuisine. For a more unique experience, check out Le Pain Quotidien. The name translates to “The Daily Bread,” and this unique restaurant serves organic homemade bread, pastries, tarts and much more. In the mood for classic American fare? Check out Chatter. Located just over five miles from Chevy Chase, Bethesda’s Ashburton neighborhood is home to the pup-tastic Cabin John Dog Park. This park is part of the larger Cabin John Regional Park and is fenced-in for off-leash play. The park is wooded and has plenty of room for a game of fetch. There is also a climbing area for adventurous pups, and water and cleanup bags are provided. To burn off even more energy, spend some time exploring the 4 miles of hiking trails in the main park. Just remember to keep your dog leashed when outside of the fenced-in area.

North Bethesda is less than a 15-minute drive from Chevy Chase, and is home to an easy trail that is fun to explore with a canine companion. The four-mile Bethesda Trolley Trail is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and links North Bethesda and Bethesda. It occupies an abandoned streetcar line, and an asphalt surface makes it an easy walk. A few hills add a bit of challenge for your canine companion, but the trail is still easy enough for most walkers to traverse. Plenty of parking is available at Fleming Local Park. Remember to clean up after your pet to ensure a pup-tacular experience for other guests.
