Pelham Bay Park Dog Run is one of the very first dog runs to ever be established in New York. If you want to take Fido to a place where he can get off his leash and run to his heart’s content, look no further. There is plenty of room here to play fetch or chase a new fur-iend’s tail. This neighborhood is only six miles from College Point, which makes it a convenient place to escape to. When the weather is nice, you should definitely take a leisurely, leashed stroll along Orchard Beach, which is just steps away from the dog park.

Eleven miles from College Point is a large dog park called Paws Place Ward Acres Dog Park. This is a great place to come and play if you are looking for wide open space that is fenced in. Feel free to let Fido off his leash so he can play with some other pups his own size. There are two separate areas. Both sides are large enough to play and have a good time in. There’s plenty of seating, so you can rest while your dog works up a good pant. There is water available as well as plenty of shade. All you need now is some doggie waste bags and Fido’s favorite toy!

There’s a dog-friendly beach on Gerritsen Avenue just about twelve miles from College Point. This beach is a well-known local hangout, which means that Fido is bound to make some new fur-iends during his visit. High tide gives him more water to splash around and play in while low tide gives you a little more sand to dig around in. There are no rules listed, and the locals often play off-leash with their dogs. If you are looking for a place to go with your dog to play on the beach not far from the city, this is the place to be! Just don’t forget to clean up after your pal.

Sirius Dog Run is located in Battery Park. It features newly paved room to run and play. There are water fountains for you and your dog, as well as plenty of seating areas for you. The best part is that it is only about fourteen miles from College Point. This is a great place that is centrally located so that you can meet up with friends. Or you could come here and makes some all new fur friends. Just remember to practice good petiquette and clean up after your pup’s messes. Don’t forget those doggie waste bags!

Even though it’s technically in another state, Grass Island Dog Park isn’t far from you. It’s only about 20 miles away. There, you will find a decent sized -- about one-third of an acre -- dog park. It is an off-leash area for Fido to run and play in with his friends. There is water available for your pup in case he gets thirsty. If you get bored of the dog park, you can always walk the trail adjacent to the area. The downsides are that there is no grass, which means that your pal might come home muddy. The gate and fence also need some minor repair work, but it’s secure enough and is definitely worth the visit if you’re looking to make some new fur-iends.
