If you drive about half an hour south of Commerce, you'll end up in the Woodland Hills area of Athens, Georgia. This area is home to Memorial Park, a 72-acre park with activities for everyone in your family to enjoy. There's a swimming pool, sports courts and fields, playgrounds, nature trails, and even an off-leash dog park! The Athens Memorial Dog Park opened in 2000, and it sits on 1.5 acres of land near the lake in the park. The park isn't divided into sections for dogs of different sizes, so your dog can interact with big and small pooches. There's water, waste disposal supplies, and seating in Athens Memorial Dog Park, and it's free to use.

The northern quadrant of Athens is less than a 20-minute drive from Commerce. Sandy Creek Nature Preserve is located in this area, and it offers 225 acres of woodlands and wetlands to explore, as well as more than four miles of trails to trek with your dog! Sandy Creek also features a 1.5-acre public dog park called C. Spot Run. It's free to use, and it has seating and running water for dogs to drink. There are three other dog parks in Sandy Creek, and each can be rented for only $1 per dog. These three other parks range in size from 0.8 acres to 2.8 acres, and they're ideal spaces if you'd like to let your dog run free, but they need a space of their own.

Eastern Athens is about 25 miles from Commerce, and this area is home to yet another one of the city's pawesome dog parks. This off-leash park is located within Southeast Clarke Park, a 124-acre park that also features nature trails, a skate park, concession stands, sports fields, and much more. The dog park is known as Wiggley Field, and it has three separate sections: one for large dogs, one for small dogs, and a third area that is closed on a  rotating schedule to allow the grass to regrow. The grass at Wiggley Field is mowed regularly, and there are water fountains, seating, and shade in the park.

Northeastern Flowery Branch is 30 miles west of Commerce, and this is also where you'll find Mulberry Creek Park. This 22-acre park has playgrounds, walking trails, activity rooms, gymnasiums, a fitness center, and an off-leash dog park. The Mulberry Creek Dog Park has one section with a very tall fence for big dogs, and another enclosure for smaller dogs. This dog park provides visitors with waste disposal supplies and drinking water for dogs. Be sure to bring your own bowl for the water, because the fountain is located just outside of the dog park fence. Visitors love that Mulberry Creek Dog Park is clean, well-maintained, and safe.
