Twenty miles outside of Charlotte, North Carolina is the city of Concord. NASCAR fans may know Concord as the home of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. As 2004’s winner of the All-America City Award, the community offers several fur-iendly amenities including a dog park, a flyball club, and several restaurants that welcome pets with open paws. Harrisburg’s University Animal Medical and Dental Clinic is less than a twenty-minute drive from Concord in case of emergency.

If you fancy antiques, your pup can join you on leash or in your arms as you visit The Depot at Gibson Mill, one of the largest antique malls in the Southeast. With over 600 antique dealers present, you are sure to find a special treat for your furry friend and maybe even yourself!

Less than an hour’s drive from Concord is the Charlotte Trolley Trail. As the name suggests, it is a “Rail-with-Trail” that follows the path of the historic Charlotte Trolley. This spacious dog park has two separate sections: one for more timid and smaller dogs, and another for large, rambunctious dogs. Concord Bark Park offers plenty of seating for pup parents so that you can take a breather while Fido has a pawesome time making new friends! Concord Bark Park also has water available for dogs in the park; you don’t have to worry about your best pal getting too hot. This is an off-leash dog park.

If you’re in the heart of Concord and looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite to eat, and you want your dog to dine with you, look no further than Carm’s Café. A local favorite, Carm’s Café offers delicious soups and sandwiches, and the restaurant also features an extensive vegetarian menu. Carm’s Café allows Fido to join you at one of their outdoor tables, which are available when the weather is nice enough to dine outside. However, there are only three outdoor tables available, so it’s recommended you call ahead to see if one is available. A leash is required.

If you drive about 20 minutes south of Concord, to Charlotte’s Eastway neighborhood, make sure you stop by Barkingham Park, located within Reedy Creek Park. This dog park is sure to be a ball of fun for any pooch who wants to play! There are two separate areas of the park: one for smaller dogs and another for larger dogs. Water is provided for your pets, but locals warn this park can become quite muddy when it rains, so bring along a towel! The surrounding park also offers short hiking trails where Fido can join you. While a leash isn’t required for the dog park, one is required on the hiking trails.
