Cordova is a beautiful Alaskan city on the southeastern end of Prince William Sound. It has a rich history in the oil and railroad industries. Cordova has been around for over 100 years and is a growing town that is quickly becoming a popular place for families looking for an up-and-coming place to call home. Eyak Lake rests right in the center of Cordova. This lake is a hub of activity for career fishermen and nature enthusiasts. Hollis Henrich's Park is not far from the lake and is well known for its greenery and proximity to the Odiak Lagoon. Eyak Mountain looms in the distance, making for some of the most beautiful sunsets around, so make sure you go watch!

If you get hungry while you are exploring all of these amazing lakes and parks, Baja Taco is a dog-friendly Mexican restaurant with room for you and Sparky at their outdoor tables. You should note that the restaurant is only open seasonally, so you will want to call ahead or look online to make sure they are open before heading over with your canine companion. There is one animal hospital in town that services all of the furry family members in Cordova and some of the surrounding cities.

The southern portion of Cordova is home to the Copper River Delta Campground. This campground is open seasonally and allows both RV and tent camping. Your dog will find this the pawfect place to reconnect with nature and his favorite human, so make sure you pack plenty of toys and waste bags for the trip! Having a lot of clean water for your pup is always a good idea. Mavis Island is a short drive from the campground and is a puptastic spot for a summer hike (keep in mind that the summers in this area rarely get above 60 degrees Fahrenheit.)

West Cordova is the home of the well-loved Heney Ridge Trail. This four-mile trail is excellent for bird watching and spotting local wildlife in a preserved area. You will want to harness up your pup for this spectacular adventure. It is a challenging hike, but it's well worth it! Once you make it through the steepest part of the trail, you will find yourself on a ridge where you can get a clear view of the Copper River Delta and the Prince William Sound. Sometimes, you can see nearby islands if the weather is clear. Pay attention to the weather, as the trail is especially muddy after rain.

Accesible only by boat, Hawkins Island is a wildly beautiful place to check out if you can get there! Very few people live there, making it a prime location if you are a serious outdoor adventurer with an experienced hiking dog! The Canoe Passage State Marine Park offers plenty of boat-launching space if you want to embark on a fishing adventure. The island is also popular with hunters early in the deer season. Make sure you have a full pack with cold weather gear for you and your pup before you head over to this island, no matter the season!
