The town welcomes all the tourists visiting Mesa Verde County looking for new historic attractions and thrilling outdoor experiences. You can rest easy knowing that, if an emergency arises, you can ask for help at one of six veterinary clinics and animal hospitals in the area.

Cortez love its dogs, which is why they've established a place for furry friends to have fun! The large, fenced area of Cortez Dog Park in the eastern part of the town is an amazing spot for canine friends to run off-leash and bark in excitement. The park has a well-maintained grassy area, bushes to explore and sniff, a path to a small lake and even picnic tables. There are not so many locals and visitors on weekdays, but the place is always busy and fun on weekends!

Don't want to visit an average dog park? Then grab the leash and hit the miles of walking trails near Cortez to explore the beauty of the natural surroundings. And when you feel worn out, head on down to Dairy Queen to snag a sweet frozen treat! Dogs are allowed at the outdoor tables.

You will get there via Highway 160, which will lead you out of the city and to a great dog-friendly spot! Durango Off-Leash Dog Park is home to more than 6 square miles of open space and wilderness, and is set on the side of Smelter Mountain. Local dog owners tenderly love the place, and you are welcome to join their excitement! Let your mutt explore the miles of walking trails and cool himself off in the nice and clean waters of Animal River.

Once you are in the city center, don't fur-get to visit April’s Garden, a flower boutique and gift shop where your lovely mutt is very welcome and may even get a tasty treat at the check-out!

Compact, cozy and beautiful at the same time, Ouray is the town in Colorado modestly called “the Switzerland of America”. Ouray literally consists of its downtown, and all its cultural, shipping and dining facilities are gathered along Main Street. You'll want to head to Ouray Dog Park, set right in the heart of the area and just two blocks away from Main Street. The park is not huge, but it's big enough to have some furrific time playing off-leash with other canine friends. And, if there is nobody around, then your good boy can be the top dog, playing catch or just sniffing and exploring the area.

Many years ago, Ironton was a city. Now, it's a ghost town located 20 minutes south of Ouray, offering the thrilling and exciting experience of exploring the abandoned remains of the area. But if this spooky adventure is too much for you, Ironton Park is a dog-friendly place to hike with your pooch and have a fun on-leash outdoor experience. Along the Nordic Trails, you'll see spectacular views. These hiking and walking trails are great for strolls during spring and summer, but they become an alluring attraction for snowboarding in winter. Bring water with you; this ghost town doesn't have any drinking amenities!
