Lincoln Hills

Does your dog know the aroma of coffee means it's time to wake up and go for a walk? If you live in the Lincoln Hills neighborhood, you can hang out at the local coffee shop — Kentjava Bar. This dog-friendly cafe has an outdoor seating area where Fido can hang out with you as you enjoy your drinks. Kentjava offers quality roasts for espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes. After getting nice and caffeinated, you can hike along the Indian Creek Trail. The trail follows the creek, with plenty of ducks along the way for Fido to chase! Just remember your waste baggies.

Landmark

Does your dog like to roll up in your bed covers like a little burrito? This might inspire you to grab some Mexican food! The best place to get an actual burrito with Fido is in the Landmark Way neighborhood. Here, you can visit the dog-friendly El Nopal Mexican restaurant. Try the Macho Burrito, which will leave you plenty extra to snack on for later. After gorging on some tacos, you can drive down to the 130-acre Hayswood Nature Preserve. At Hayswood, you and Fido can explore the trail system, go fishing, or have a picnic underneath one of the park's shelters. Hayswood keeps tails wagging!

Harrison

Does your dog love the great outdoors and enjoy exploring wide-open spaces? (What dog doesn't?!) If you live in the Harrison neighborhood, you can hop on I-65 for a 2-hour drive to Fort Harrison State Park. This 17,000-acre park is dog-friendly and has an abundance of beautiful flowers for Fido to sniff out. Flora and fauna like Jack in the Pulpit, Harebell, and Beardtongue flowers all grow naturally at Fort Harrison State Park. You can also take a stroll by Fall Creek or just enjoy the land and throw a picnic. Fido will love it! (Just make sure to keep him on-leash at all times.)

Green Acres

Does your dog like tree-lined hiking trails? From the Green Acres neighborhood, you can drive 18 minutes west to the O'Bannon Woods to hike the trail system there. The Wyandotte Caves are a big attraction in the park if your spelunking pup wants to explore a real cave, instead of underneath your bed! O'Bannon Woods is over 2,000 acres with campgrounds and streams to fish in, too. There is a peaceful reserve that you and Fido can appreciate this deep in the woods. Also, a 10-minute drive down 135 will land you at Indiana Caverns. In the caves, you'll find bones from animals from the Ice Age, a "biodiversity hotspot" of living animals, and areas where you can mine gemstones. (Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted in the caves, but the prehistoric land site is still worth visiting. Next time, Fido!)

Heidelberg

Is your pup a history buff? If your Fido loves watching Civil War documentaries, he'll get a kick out of visiting the battle site of the Corydon Battle right here in the Heidelberg neighborhood. Visiting the park with your dog offers a bridge to the past. The park plays laureate to battle cannons, statues, and tombstones which mark the country's past. Tours are available -- which dogs can join as long as they are well-behaved -- that lead you around the highlights of the park. You can commemorate a piece of American history with your dog as you hike the battlefield. Be respectful and bring waste bags to clean up after your pal.
