This is a hidden gem for dogs and their owners, with 34 acres of land including “the backyard” where pups are allowed to play off-leash and exercise. Even though the area is not densely populated, you may be surprised how many dogs come along with their masters to enjoy the day out, sharing a small picnic or just chilling in the shade.

West Hills County Park
West Hills County Park is an extensive leafy area occupying a significant part of West Hills and located adjacent to its counterpart, West Hills Nature Preserve. Your lovely mutt will fall in love with this place, which has roomy, separate spots for small and large breeds and a spacious field and wooded area. This is practically a giant playground for dogs! Don’t be afraid to let your mutt socialize; the local crowd is always very friendly and welcoming to new visitors. This park charges an admission fee on weekends, but is totally free to visit on weekdays.

East West Hills
West Hills can be called a place of flourishing nature, since almost all of the terrain is occupied by parks, preserves and wooded areas. The eastern part of the hamlet is not an exception, offering an easy, 5-mile hiking experience at Walt Whitman Trail. Grab a leash and let the spirit of adventure guide you for the next two hours while your mutt is exploring and sniffing the trails. Challenge yourself by conquering the top of the 401-foot Jaynes Hill. There’s only one drawback here: dogs are not allowed in the picnic area, but there is a dog-friendly café near the southern part of the trails. Roast Sandwich House serves up sandwiches and other casual lunch food to pups and their owners at the outdoor dog-friendly tables.

Located in the village of Westbury, Eisenhower Park is an extensive area that includes Eisenhower Red Golf Course and Eisenhower Dog Park. The local community worked really hard to create this 2-acre area with two separate spots for small and large breeds and a double-gated entrance. Bring your mutt to enjoy all the amenities, including new benches, a shaded pavilion, and doggie fountains. The dog park is set in the northern part of the main park, and has a separate parking lot for visitors. But the fun can be spoiled if you head back home on an empty stomach, so before you leave, do visit Bagel Boss Café, less than a 5-minute walk from the park, which has outdoor dog-friendly tables and delicious traditional cuisine.

Bay Terrace- Fort Totten
Bay Terrace is a neighborhood in the northern part of Queens with an access point to Little Neck Bay. Little Bay Park is a green area in North Bay Terrace adjacent to Fort Totten Park and offering beautiful views of Little Bay. The park has a special dog run where every pup is welcome. This is a fenced, sandy area with two separate spots for small and large pups to play together and chase each other’s tails. For the most active pups, the dog run has a number of doggie fountains to gulp some water and recharge for the next chase. Don’t fur-get to bring your own waste bags, though.
