Danville Center

Danville is home to the Danville Town Forest, a 420-acre piece of land in the northern part of town. It has a dirt parking lot that provides access to the Danville Town Forest Quest Trail. This dog-friendly trail is about ¾ of a mile of interesting and scenic terrain, an old logging road, many different species of trees such as apple, cedar, cherry and beech, and a bog. It is marked part of the way, but you can easily follow the unmarked portion to the Tuckertown logging road that will loop you back to the parking area. The forest is open year-round, and in the winter is a fine area for snowshoeing with your furry bestie in tow. Several other smaller and older trails branch off the main one and can provide a diverse day of exploring. A bench has been placed at one of the scenic overlooks, with a water spigot nestled behind it. This is a fine little natural resource for you and your pup to enjoy!

Kingston Center

Kingston is Danville’s neighbor to the east, and home to the Webster Natural Area. This park features marked trails on its 89 acres that take you and your pup through woods and along the Pow Wow River. You will also walk past and into fields that abut the wetland areas of the park, with their snakes, amphibians, water fowl and other wildlife, providing a smorgasbord for Fido's senses! Birds are everywhere, especially during the spring and fall migratory seasons, so be sure to look skyward and up into the trees. If Fido has a yearning to run free (and what dog doesn’t, check out the Live Free and Run Kingston Dog Park within the old Kingston Fairgrounds. This park requests membership for its use and is a beautiful 1-acre off-leash run. Come and watch your pup socialize and cavort!

Derry Village/ Peppermint Corner

The town of Derry lies just 10 miles from Danville and this neighborhood is home to the Derry Dog Park. This is a large park that is fully-fenced with 2 separate areas for large and small dogs, and double safety gates for each area. The park provides benches and a gazebo for the humans who want to sit while their dogs play, along with toys, kiddie pools and agility equipment, including tunnels for those who want their play a bit more structured or who just want to play hide and seek. Fresh drinking water is available too, as are waste bags and receptacles. There’s even a small river a short way from the enclosed park where you can take your leashed pooch for a splash and swim! Pawsome!

Derry Town Center

The Derry Town Center lies along the Rails-to-Trails trail known as the Windham Depot to Derry Trail. At a length of 3.5 miles, the trail boasts an asphalt surface which allows for hiking, biking, is wheelchair-accessible, and in the winter offers snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Along the way it passes through woodlands, wetlands and swamp areas. Benches are placed intermittently along the trail for resting or viewing the surrounding scenery. In the wetland areas, you might see a beaver or two, or one of their dams. If your hike has made you hungry, make a stop at Amphora, a casual Greek restaurant where you’ll find a huge menu with American and Mediterranean dishes sure to please. Dine with your pup at an outside table. Bone appetit!

Sandown

The town of Sandown is located immediately to the west of Danville and is home to the Seely Park and Beach. Seely Park is on Phillips Pond, and it boasts a shaded sandy beach as well as convenient access to the ice cream shop directly across the street. Arf! Another beach in Sandown is the Angle Pond Grove Beach. This beach on Angle Pond slopes gently toward the water and is perfect for families and their fur-babies, who need to be leashed. Other activities besides beach-bumming and swimming are volleyball, basketball, kayaking and picnics. An evening campfire and some s’mores would definitely round out the day. Be sure to pick up after your pup in this public area!
