The City Center in Dearborn Heights is home to the Lyle C. Van Houten Park, also known as the Dearborn Heights Municipal Park. A portion of the dog-friendly Lower Rouge Parkway, with its 5 popular hiking trails, resides in this neighborhood of Dearborn Heights. The trails feature scenic views of the area, including wetlands and a waterfall behind the Henry Ford Estate. The Waterfall Loop Trail meanders along the Rouge River and affords sightings of wildlife as well. The trails are open year-round, and in the winter offer a unique experience of snow-muffled city noise and frozen swampland. There is very little up- or down-grading on the paved trail, so you can have a nice, easy amble suitable for kids, too. Come out and explore all 5 trails with a leashed Fido in tow!

This neighborhood is home to the Parkland Community Park, a multi-use green space with sports fields and a playground for the human members of the family, plus lots of grassy lawn, paved walking paths and picnic shelters complete with grills and tables. This neighborhood is home to the Helms Haven Recreation Area, another segment of the 20-mile long Hines Park, southeast of Nolar Bend. Helms Haven is a continuation of the Hines Park Trail which is popular with walkers, joggers, bicyclists and in-line skaters.
