With over 700 acres of community parks, Dekalb creates a perfect atmosphere for raising Fido in Illinois. Dog owners enjoy walking their pups along the sidewalks in residential neighborhoods, or hitting the Great Western Trail which follows the Great Western Railroad track for 3.5 miles in DeKalb and another 14 miles into Kane County.

Sometimes Fido needs to work off even more energy, and heading over to the Sycamore Forest Preserve is an excellent way to spend the day with your pup. This sixty-acres of land features prairie habitat and open-air shelters that are great for a picnic. The hard-surfaced biking and hiking trails make walking your pooch easy, so you can enjoy the natural surroundings. Exercising your pup is important, but so is excellent veterinarian care. Three clinics in the area provide both emergency and routine care for your canine companion with compassion and commitment.

Your pup may not like going to the Vet, but she will enjoy stopping by Paw Likin’ Good a family owned pet store providing high-quality treats and food for your furry friends. The in-store bakery features a “Meal of the Month” that changes so it is never boring. When you need a snack with the entire family, check out Potbelly Sandwich Shop with 11 pet-friendly outdoor tables where you can enjoy soup, salad, or a variety of sandwiches.

Dekalb is known for its dog-friendly apartments and hotel accommodations. The Baymont Inn & Suites welcomes pets of any size for a small additional fee, and Red Roof Inn near the college also allows pups to spend the night.
