A pawpular place to take a walk is the Dover Community Trail, just a 10 minute drive from Eliot. This trail is an old railroad that was converted into a 3 mile rail trail for all to enjoy. This path is fairly flat, and offers great views of the Cocheco River. Downtown Portsmouth
Just across the western bridge into the town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, brings you to another puppy paradise! It’s in the downtown area of this town that you can find the South Mill Pond Dog Park, just a 15 minute drive from Eliot. This park features a double gated fenced off area where your playful pup can romp around in off-leash like a wild dog. There is also an unfenced off-leash area that borders the west end of South Mill Pond. In the park you can find shaded areas, drinking water, and an agility course. All you need to bring are some treats for your good boy or girl! After working up an appetite, head over to the State Street Saloon in the same neighborhood. They offer tasty pub fare and dog friendly outdoor seating. They love dogs here, and have been known to bring out water bowls and dog biscuits.

Kittery Point
To let your pup run, rinse and repeat in the Atlantic Ocean, head over to the Kittery Point neighborhood in Kittery, just a 20 minute drive from Eliot. The drive is worth it! Here you can find the beach that all the dogs are barking about, Seapoint Beach. Dogs are allowed to enjoy this beach with their humans, except during the tourist season that runs June 15th to September 10th between 10am and 5pm. During the allowed times, your dog can be off-leash, as long as they stay under the control of their owner and are picked up after. If you're not up for the beach today, head over to the Fort McClary State Historic Site, located in the same neighborhood. Here you and your pup can enjoy walking through the military ruins set up against a beautiful ocean backdrop. You can learn about the history of the fort through interpretive signs.
