The North neighborhood of Elkhart has the most dog-friendly activities and places to go with your pup. The newly opened Dr. Frank Booth Bark Park is located in this part of town. This bark park has areas for small and large dogs. The ground in the park itself is mostly grass with areas of gravel where agility equipment is set up. Red fire hydrants squirt a mist of water for a quick cool down on a hot day. This bark park is accessible by permit only. A key card must be used to get in. It is open from dawn to dusk. Also in the neighborhood are several dog-friendly hotels. Baymont Inn is located at 3010 Brittany Court. Baymont welcomes into all of its rooms up to two dogs of any size for an additional fee of $20 per dog per night.

The South neighborhood of Elkhart has a few places for you and your pup to visit. McCarthy’s On the Riverwalk is located at 333 Nibco Parkway. The city of Goshen is ten miles south Elkhart. Robert L. Nelson Dog Park is located at 60376 County Road 13. The dog park is approximately four acres of fenced grass for dogs to run and play off leash. There are three separate enclosures. One is for small dogs, one for larger ones, and a third that has access to a pond. A small shelter with a few chairs are in the park for the human companions. The dog park provides waste bags and water bowls. This dog park is for members only. Registration is at the Animal Care Clinic South. There is an annual fee to use this dog park.

Mishawaka is ten miles west of Elkhart. Margaret Prickett Dog Park is located at 13100 Jefferson Road. The dog park is a large fenced enclosure for dogs to run and socialize off-leash. There is a separate fenced area for the small dogs. The dog park has a mixture of terrain, and there are plenty of hills and places that have some small trees and foliage for Fido to explore. Water is available on-site. Human companions can enjoy a covered shelter and picnic tables. The dog park relies on users to bring their own waste bags plus more to leave at the park. The dog park is open dawn to dusk.

Nappanee is seventeen miles south of Elkhart. Nappanee Dog Park is located at 1300 N. Oakland Avenue. This is a members-only dog park. The dog park has two fully fenced enclosures. One enclosure is set aside for small dogs. The ground is mostly grass. The dog park has water fountains designed for use by dog and people. Benches are provided for the human companions. Hours are 6:30 to 11 p.m. The dog park is adjacent to the Derksen Farm and Wetlands, which is a 7-acre nature preserve. If you get tired of playing in the park, there are several trails at Derksen which you can explore with your leashed dog.
