Fairfield is full of beautiful outdoor spaces. Two nearby nature preserves give a person and a leashed dog a wilderness experience, but visitors and residents of Fairfield don't need to leave town to have a furrific adventure! Great Piece Meadows is located within the city limits. This nature preserve has over 1,000 acres of wetland. This is a place where the sounds of marsh birds are heard crisply echoing over the lake. There are no designated trails on the preserve, only a footpath around the lake. Kayaks are a frequent sight on the lake.

Ten miles west of town is a second wetland preserve, Troy Meadows. This preserve has over 3,000 acres of marsh. The hiking at Troy Meadows is not easy, though. The terrain is uneven, muddy, and has natural obstacles like fallen logs. An untouched landscape rewards the challenge.

A less rigorous bit of outdoor fun can be had at one of the city’s parks. The largest city park is located on Hollywood Avenue. Paved walking paths, bathroom facilities and picnic tables makes this park an ideal stop for a person and a leashed dog. A stop at the Manhattan Bagel lets you and your pup eat some breakfast together at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables. The town has five veterinary clinics that offer routine care as well an emergency hospital that operates around the clock.

No matter whether you're looking to eat, play, or relax in Fairfield with your pooch, this quaint town is the pawfect place to enjoy a getaway with your best furry friend!
