Excelsior Springs Junction
The town of Excelsior Springs is a short distance from Fleming and is home to the Cooley Lake Conservation Area. The conservation area is a 1,348-acre lake that has main channels to the Missouri River and has wetlands, croplands, and a forest. Cooley Lake Conservation Area has a 2.5-mile long moderate trail for you and your pup to explore while you are out enjoying your day. This large Excelsior Springs neighborhood offers the Pigg’s Landing Access, a boat ramp access area for the Fishing River. While many people use this park to get a boat into the river, the natural area here is a good wild spot to go on a real adventure with a bold pup. Jacomo Trail is a 2.2-mile moderate trail that has a lake you can dip in on those hot days. The trail is a loop route and only has an elevation of 167 feet. The Larry Mattenon Memorial Trail is a 4.8-mile loop style trail that has a 429-foot elevation and is lightly trafficked. The trail is perfect for all skill levels, and features a river along the way. The trail is open year around, and you are even allowed to camp around it. These hiking trails are perfect to get your pup’s energy out and have a relaxing trip home, which will take right under an hour.
