Lincoln Park
Just a short 10-minute drive northwest of Florence lies the neighborhood of Lincoln Park. This beautiful neighborhood has two designated dog parks, including the fabulous Off Leash Dog Park. This purrfect park has a .25-mile trail surrounding the outskirts, making it a perfect opportunity for both you and your furry friend to get some much needed fresh air and exercise. The park also has an area for the dogs to roam off leash while you take a seat on one of the many picnic table or leisurely stroll alongside them. Be sure to bring a jug of water though as there aren't any watering stations in this park.

The northern side of Florence is home to two fabulous public parks that are purrfect for you and your pup to enjoy the local atmosphere for hours on end. Head over to Wilcox Park for a nice change of pace from the downtown hustle and bustle typically associated with cities and even small towns like Florence. Or trot on over to Lions Park for more nature-oriented fun. Both parks have ample room for you and your pup to roam and explore. However, both parks do require dogs to remain on-leash at all times, so be sure to keep that in mind! Be sure to bring doggie waste bags with you, since these aren't designated dog parks.

Buckskin Joe
Heading over to the western side of Canon City, just 25 minutes from Florence, you will find the expansive community of Buckskin Joe. This widespread neighborhood has several dog-friendly attractions to keep you and your fur baby entertained all day long. For your first stop, head to Temple Canyon Park for several miles of hiking trails as well as the opportunity to photograph some of Colorado's most rare birds. You can also head a few minutes south to Curley Peak, one of the area's most commonly climbed mountains. As the day winds down, head to 8 Mile Bar & Grill to grab some tasty grub for you and your pup before heading home.

Penrose
Just 10 minutes northeast of Florence lies the charming neighborhood of Penrose. Perhaps the greatest attraction of this area is the incredible 40,000-acre uninhabited, road-free Beaver Creak State Wildlife Area. There are miles and miles of trails for you and your pup to enjoy all day long. There are also nearby campgrounds if you wish to extend your stay. After a day (or two) of hiking, head to the one and only dog-friendly restaurant in the Penrose area: Coyote's Coffee Den. Sip some fresh coffee, available hot or iced, and choose from an array of fresh pastries or more sustainable food choices, such as grilled panini sandwiches, wraps, soups and even flatbread pizzas.

Head 15 minutes northwest of Florence and you will find yourself in the charming neighborhood of Prospect Heights, home of one of the most popular parks in town: Centennial Park. This incredible park boasts a riverfront picnic area, tennis court, volleyball court, baseball diamond, basketball court and fish pond. Plus, the park is equipped with public restrooms. The Prospect Heights neighborhood also contains the Eagle Wing Trailhead. This several-mile-long trail offers incredibly scenic and elevated views of the surrounding mountains and rivers.
