Next time your dog needs a walk, clip on his leash and pay a visit to Munsel Greenway Park. He’ll go mutts over this natural space. Stroll around the trails and enjoy being in the great outdoors. A seasonal lake adds to this park’s beauty. Continue your walk on the Munsel Creek Bike Path. Your pal can strut his stuff on this paved trail. It follows Munsel Creek and is lined with lush vegetation. After your pup’s workout, stop by 1285 Restobar for a bite to eat. They have a delicious assortment of seafood entrees as well as soups, salads, and pizza. Your pooch can sit on the patio with you. He’ll even get his own water bowl!

When she’s finished playing, clip on her leash and check out the hiking trails in the main area of the park. She can cool down while strolling through groves of pine trees. One of the trails leads to the nearby Miller Park, where you’ll have even more fun in the sun.

The small community of Heceta Beach is located just 10 minutes north of Florence. If you have a water loving pup, then plan a trip to this area’s namesake, Heceta Beach. Your leashed pooch can walk for miles along the sandy beach as you look for sand dollars and seashells. Or she can splash in the surf and enjoy the cool Pacific Ocean. This beach also has some pretty pawsome sand dunes worth exploring. Bring a blanket and some sandwiches and enjoy a picnic. If you time it right, you and your furry companion can sit and watch the sun set.

Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park is a furrific place for a weekend getaway with your pooch. Located near Dunes City, this park is only 10 minutes south of Florence. RV sites, tent sites, and even pet friendly yurts are available. During the day, explore the miles of sand dunes or hop on one of the nature trails. Two freshwater lakes are stocked for fishing and also have boat ramps. If you have an adventurous pup, strap a life jacket on her and venture into the water in a canoe or kayak. Needless to say, this place will make your dog one happy hound!

Drive 20 minutes south of Florence and you’ll come to Gardiner. This area has some pawsome hikes that your four legged hiker will absolutely love. Tahkenitch Dunes Trail leads you through a beautiful conifer forest. After a mile, the trail opens up to the sand dunes gives you spectacular ocean views. Threemile Lake North Trail is another furrific option. This trail also cuts through conifer forests, but it stops at Threemile Lake before arriving at the beach. It clocks in at 7 miles round trip. You can combine both trails for a 6.5 mile loop.  Explore the area with your pup, but know the tide schedule and always watch for sneaky waves.
