The pet-friendliness is "pup-itable" in the creek-filled town of Florida, New York. A little over an hour's drive from New York City, the village of Florida offers a more wide open space to live than the big city. Florida is a great place for pet owners. The village lies between upstate New York and Manhattan giving dogs a "tail of two cities." Dogs can enjoy the great outdoors and quick access to the fun-filled skyscrapers further down the state. Florida is mostly farming land, which is mostly dedicated to vast onion fields that pepper the land between creeks. Whether you have a farming dog or a lap dog, citizens of Florida love it here!

Pet owners have access to a veterinarian in town, with a short drive to six others in the great Orange County area. There are also 3 pet shops in the village and 4 parks where you can take your dog to go for a nice walk in the New York sunshine. In the northeastern point of Florida, there's a trail called the Orange Heritage Trail. There are also a few pet-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating where you can chow down with your pooch by your side.

Does your dog love to be out of the house in the great outdoors? Then he'll love living in the Glenview Hills neighborhood, tucked into the northeastern tip of the village. In Glenview Hills, you can stroll down Glenmere Lake. You can take your dog there for a relaxing hike around the lake, or he can keep you company while you fish. Glenmere makes a great place for a picnic with beautiful views along the edge of the water. Dogs are more than welcome to hang out around Glenmere as long as their leash is on. Also in the neighborhood is the 15-mile Orange Heritage Trail. The trail is asphalt, so on a hot day, you will want to bring water and doggie boots for his paws. Don't let this stop you and Fido from enjoying the gorgeous views!

Does your dog bark up a storm every time he smells you baking something? If your dog loves the smell of bread rising, then he probably lives in the Main neighborhood in the center of the village. In this neighborhood, you can find Florida Bakery & Deli. This local favorite offers Polish specialties like freshly baked homemade chocolate babka or kielbasa with sauerkraut. If you still have a sweet tooth after eating at this dog-friendly joint, you can head down to the Carvel Ice Cream for a scoop of your favorite flavor!

Does your dog enjoy walking along creeks and streams and splashing in the water? The whole village of Florida will suit your "aqua pup", but he'll especially love Maplehill — home to the 88-mile long Wallkill River. A tributary of the Hudson, the Wallkill River flows from Northern Sussex county into Florida to support the agricultural lands of the village. You can walk along the river's edge for a nice, peaceful stroll. Also in the Maplehill neighborhood is the Veteran Memorial Park — another great spot for an on-leash walk with your Fido!

Does your dog love wide open fields where he can chase down tennis balls of frisbees? (Of course he does!) If your dog is a natural fetcher, then he'll love chasing his favorite ball in this neighborhood. Here, you'll find Jarocki Park right off Lempka Drive. The park doesn't have many amenities, so bring water! The park does offer a great open space for your dog to get some exercise and playtime. The park is open from dawn to dusk, and dogs are more than welcome here as long as owners pick up after their pooches.

Does your dog love to hike through primitive landscapes that bring him back to his wolf heritage? In the Hambletonian neighborhood, you can head east into the Goosepond Mountain State Park. Goosepond is open for leashed dogs to come hike and explore the undeveloped 1,558 acres of breathtaking land. Most of the area is wooded, so bring a park map, hiking boots, and, of course, Fido's leash! You can follow the marked trails that run through the park. You and your dog can see all kinds of wildlife that call this state park home, including moose, black bears, eastern cougars, and gray foxes. Just don't let Fido get too friendly with them!
