Surrounded by the city of El Paso, Fort Bliss is a thriving military base that has just about everything a pet owner could want. There are over 3,000 families living on base in distinct neighborhoods, so your daily walk can wind through different streets every day. Stop off at one of the many covered playgrounds for a rest to get out of the hot Texas sun.

The Fort Bliss Dog Park is where all the fur-parents gather for some frolicking. This fenced, off-leash dog park is located at the corner of Sheridan and Dudley Roads, right beside the Community Center. There is ample parking, and the waste stations are stocked with bags to clean up after your pup. Though water is not provided onsite, you can easily pop into the community center to refill a bottle or bowl.

Two veterinary clinics operate right within the boundaries of Fort Bliss, with over 20 more veterinarians in the surrounding city of El Paso. There is a 24-hour emergency vet just outside the bounds of Fort Bliss, so help is always there when you and your doggo need it.

The community of Fort Bliss is a great place for all of the two and four-legged residents.

The Rim-University neighborhood of El Paso is absolute heaven for the rugged outdoorsy doggo. The biggest feature of the area is Billy Rogers Arroyo, a nature preserve that spans 60 acres. There are plenty of trails, but the best on-leash loop is the Monk’s Trail. You’ll find the trailhead for the nearly two-mile path on North Virginia Street. Be sure to bring plenty of water for you and Fido! Just on the edge of the Arroyo is the trailhead for Palisades Canyon Loop Trail, a more challenging hike for the trailblazing set. With over 1,000 feet elevation gain and a loop of over five miles, this is the ultimate tail-wagging adventure.
