The topography in Fountain Valley is relatively flat and dips down as you get closer to the ocean. You should have no problems with steep hills in the area and this makes it the ideal walking location for anyone, no matter what their fitness levels are. It’s also great for all types of dogs whether they have short or long legs. One thing to bear in mind, however, is that Orange County can become very hot in the summer months. If the temperature is particularly high, please keep in mind that dogs cannot sweat to cool themselves down in the same way that we do, so keep walks early in the morning or later at night to ensure your dog is not uncomfortably hot.

Fountain Valley is a pretty built-up, artificial landscape. Your best bet for finding natural terrain is to head towards Huntington Beach where you can experience wild waves and soft sand under your feet.

The biggest greenway in Fountain Valley is Mile Square Regional Park. This large landscape is home to three golf courses, a few sports pitches, and miles of walking trails with lots of picnic benches. Please be aware that most golf courses do not allow dogs off the leash to ensure the enjoyment of those playing the sport. You may be able to traverse their terrain but only with your puppy pal close by and under control. However, there are also lots of lakes and wide-open green spaces that are ideal for letting your pooch run free.

Why not take your pup for a walk around a pond and let them have a little swim to cool off? You’ll love the waterside views and the fresh air that comes with escaping neighborhood life. There are lots of activities for the family and locals report that it’s a great day out for everyone involved, dogs included.
