The Hidden Mesa Open Space is a 1,224-acre buffer between Franktown and Castle Rock. It's a pawpular spot among mountain bikers, but hikers and leashed doggos are welcome as well. Hidden Mesa's single-track, soft-surface trail stretches 4.5 miles and climbs up to the top of the mesa, making for a moderate hike. As you and Fido follow the trail, you'll pass by rock outcroppings, viewpoints, shrublands, pines, and junipers. And since the open space is home to various wildlife, you might also spot some prairie dogs, pronghorn, and elk. Always keep Fido on a leash and pick up after him so that everyone can have a good time!

The Colorado Horse Park
To let your pooch socialize with other canines, head up 5 miles north to the Bayou Gulch Dog Park in neighboring Parker. With beautiful views and a fenced-in area that spans more than 2 acres, this off-leash dog park is definitely worth the brief drive. Dog parents say they like the park for being clean and not too busy. Water isn't provided, though, so be sure to bring your own. The Bayou Gulch Dog Park is located in the eastern portion of the Bayou Gulch Regional Park, next to 2.5 miles of soft-surface trails. Fido is allowed to join you in exploring the trails outside the dog park but must be leashed at all times.
