Freehold offers several options for places to let your pooch off-leash. Thompson Park's fenced-in zones are designated for large and small dogs, and the park provides water and restrooms. The nearby Wolf Hill Recreation Area is a fantastic choice for families with different-sized dogs, as it offers both a small dog area and a mixed-size dog area, as well as doggie bags, sheltered picnic tables, and ample parking.

Notable trails in the area include the Edgar Felix Memorial Trail. At just over 5.5-miles, the paved path meanders through secluded woodlands and local parks. Beautiful scenery and moderate inclines make this trail worthwhile for any pooch-friendly excursion. Need something a little longer? The Barnegat Branch Trail is currently 10 miles long, with an addition 6 miles under construction.

Manasquan River Linear Park has over 400 acres of protected woodland, hiking trails, and even a river that you can boat down with your favorite pooch. To the east is Michael J. Tighe Park, complete with open fields for running and a splash park for those hot days! Turkey Swamp Park is by far the biggest at over 2,000 acres, and features beautiful forested areas and the most scenic trails for miles. Complete with a lake, Turkey Swamp Park is a unique lush green space that you just can’t get anywhere else.

Woodcrest Park and Greentree Park both feature open running areas and the occasional tree for scenic landscaping. If fields aren’t your style, Woodgate Park is full of woodlands, and even has a trail for a leisurely stroll. You and your dog are sure to have a woof-derful time.
