The Retirement Capital of Texas, beautiful Georgetown, is located in the central heartland of the state. Home to the state's first university, this growing community boasts historic neighborhoods and institutions, along with several pet-friendly attractions.

Is your pooch feeling cooped up? Georgetown just opened its' first public off-leash dog park! Bark Park is over six acres large, with separate areas for dogs over 30 pounds, and dogs smaller than 30 pounds. Interestingly, this park is situated in a pecan grove, creating beautiful surroundings and break from the hot Texas sun. Open from dawn to dusk daily, as long as the weather cooperates, the park has modern amenities like water and doggie bags, as well as an agility course.

Other parks welcome on-leash dogs. Georgetown has over two dozen public parks, including the Blue Hole, McMaster Complex, Raintree Park, and Old Town Park. Most of these parks provide access to short nature trails.

Longer trails in the Georgetown area include the 1.6-mile granite loop around San Gabriel Park. The San Gabriel River also has a lighted concrete path with gorgeous water views. This trail was designated a National Recreational Trail by the US Department of the Interior. Nearby is the Pickett Trail, which connects the Blue Hole Park and Chautauqua Park.
