Southeast Natural Bridge Station
The 14-state long Appalachian Trail winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains, not far from Glasgow in the town of Natural Bridge. A great spot nearby to park up and explore some of this trail is Petites Gap Milepost (or Milepost 0) in Natural Bridge Station. Dogs are welcome in this section of the Appalachian Trail, but keep him leashed for his safety and that of the local wildlife. The trail is known for being a little rocky and sometimes difficult to traverse, so wear appropriate footwear and clothing. It is wise to plan ahead here too; there are trail maps and lots of practical information for hikers through the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

Natural Bridge
Head over to the Natural Bridge State Park and check out the natural structure that lends this neighboring town its name – the impressive 15-foot tall naturally formed limestone bridge. There are over six miles of walking trails through here and dogs are very welcome to trot along with their owners, just keep your pup leashed at all times and make sure you clean up after him. The Cedar Creek Trail is one of the best to seek out. This trail is two miles long and offer an easy walk up to a waterfall. There is a small admission fee to the park, but there are facilities on site to utilise including restrooms, a gift shop, a living history museum and numerous areas to stop for a packed lunch.

Buena Vista
Buena Vista is nine miles northeast of Glasgow and is where you will find a trailhead to the The Chessie Nature Trail. This seven mile dog-friendly walkway follows the route of the old Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad and is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the nation-wide Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. As you wander through the forest and farmland areas, keep a lookout for the many animals that call this area home. You may even come across a cow or donkey on the path, so keep your pup leashed at all times! Also in Buena Vista is the 315-acre Glen Maury Park, with wooded trails, playgrounds, picnic areas and even a pet-friendly campground to enjoy.

Northwest Monroe
Otter Creek Campground and Trail is 10 miles southeast of Glasgow in Monroe. This place has more pet-friendly trails to walk together which are part of the 369 miles of hiking trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Otter Creek Trail is 3.5 miles long and takes you up to the James River Visitor’s Centre where you can get more information on this lovely area. The trail is easy and follows closely to the road. The shorter Otter Lake Loop Trail is just under one mile is another pleasant walk, or you might like to check out the 0.4-mile Trail of Trees that runs from the Visit Centre into a shaded stream drainage. The other short trail is the 0.4-mile Canal Lock Trail which takes you over to the old Battery Creek Lock. Keep your pet leashed as you enjoy the history and natural beauty of this area, and always clean up after your pet.

Southwest Lexington
The spectacular Boxerwood Nature Center and
Woodland Garden in Lexington is definitely worth a visit while you are in the
area. Just 15 miles north of Glasgow, make a day trip of it and enjoy the 15-acre nature center and woodland garden with your

variety of trees, art installations, wildlife and well-manicured gardens.
