Old Stage Rd/Pacific Hwy

Ben Hur Lampman Park may be a little past its heyday -- the grass certainly isn’t as well-maintained as it used to be -- but it’s still a pretty safe spot to walk your pooch! Named after Oregon Poet Laureate and former editor of the Gold Hill News, Ben Hur Lampman, strolling through the two-acre park can be a kind of lonely experience -- though the grass is long and the route is lined with blackberries, the asphalt trail, cracked as it is, still remains. No bones about it, a visit here is a great way to feel like you’ve escaped civilization while remaining close to the center of Gold Hill!

Foots Creek

You’d need to be barking mad not to bring your buddy to Valley of the Rogue State Park! Located a couple of miles downriver from Gold Hill in Foots Creek, the park isn’t the largest in the area, but don’t let that put you off. You’ll find some gorgeous wooded areas here, as well as a walking path with wonderful riverside views. Not inspired by paved paths? Why not head a bit upriver and try your luck on the Mountain of the Rogue Loop? This six-mile stretch runs through sunny hills to close, dark forest and features a couple of steep inclines. Watch out for mountain bikers!

Grants Pass City Center

Looking for somewhere to chow down with your four-legged pal? Look no fur-ther than Grants Pass! The city’s downtown is full of locally owned gems that welcome doggy diners. For a great cup of joe, check out Rogue Coffee Roasters -- their Brazil French Roast is the stuff of local legend, and they cater to canines outside. If you’re in the mood for wine and small bites, pop in to the Twisted Cork, where you and your pup can enjoy some seared scallops on the patio. Or for a more substantial meal, try The Haul. This brewpub does a pawfect thin crust pizza and welcomes wagging tails at outdoor tables.

Sam's Valley Highway

If you and your pooch are looking for a pretty place to stretch all six of your legs, a walk on the Ti’lomikh Trail might be just the ticket. Sitting right on the northern edge of Gold Hill, this pawesome trail runs through lush, shrub-studded river valley up to the rushing, rapid like Ti’lomikh Falls. There are a couple of tree-lined treks leading off the beaten path, too -- make sure to look up a map before you go! The trail isn’t very busy, which is great if you want to escape the madding crowd, but not so great if you’re expecting toilets, picnic benches or other facilities.

Bear Creek

Bear Creek Dog Park is a real mutts-visit! Right in the middle of the friendly, easily walkable neighborhood of Bear Creek, there’s enough space here for even the most hyperactive hound to burn off some excess energy. The dog run gets plenty of shade, and there’s ample seating for tired owners, and even a couple of doggy pools for your pooch to splash about and cool down in. Bags and water are provided, but there’s no separate small dog area, so be mindful of your buddy’s temperament. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, why not grab a sweet treat at the Buttercloud Bakery and Cafe?
