Located within the 116-acre Salmon Brook Park, the Granby Dog Park is a large off-leash area with shade trees, picnic tables, pet waste stations, and a spigot in the form of a fire hydrant. Town Center

The Enders State Forest is another furrific place in Granby where you can spend some time in nature with your best pal. Extending into the neighboring town of Barkhamsted, the Enders State Forest comprises diverse forests, wetlands, and multiple waterfalls. Though it's a relatively easy hike that can be completed in less than an hour, there are some steep slopes and the rocks near the falls are slippery when wet. Use caution and common sense, but also have fun! Beautiful views and great photo ops await for not much effort. As always, keep Fido on a leash and clean up after him.

Day St / Firetow Rd

The Holcomb Farm in West Granby is more than just a working farm that provides organic produce throughout Greater Hartford. This 367-acre farm also serves as a community gathering place and is home to miles and miles of trails that meander through scenic, varied terrain. Available year-round, the trails at the Holcomb Farm will lead you and Fido through forested highlands, sloping meadows, grassy flatlands, and rocky ledges. All trails are loops, so you can make your hike as easy or as challenging as you wish. If you participate in geocaching, several caches are hidden at the farm as well. Remember to keep your pooch leashed and refrain from physically interacting with any wildlife you encounter.

Tunxis State Forest

Spanning the towns of Granby, Barkhamsted, and Hartland, the Tunxis State Forest encompasses 9,152-acres of woods divided into sections on either side of the Barkhamsted Reservoir. If you need to “get away” with your pooch, quiet and expansive Tunxis is the place to go. Depending on which part you're in, the trails can be easy or a bit more challenging. Either way, you and Fido will come across beautiful scenery and maybe even some wildlife such as geese and moose. Don't forget to bring food and water, keep Fido on a leash at all times, and wear orange or reflective material during hunting season.

West Simsbury

Puppers who love to hike are in for a treat in this neighborhood in nearby Simsbury. The Stratton Brook State Park welcomes leashed dogs on its hiking trails and in the picnic areas, so grab Fido's leash and favorite treats and spend a few hours exploring this beautifully wooded state park. Another spot that's worth checking out is the Massacoe State Forest, a 370-acre site composed of two separate blocks of woodland. The larger block, Great Pond, features the biggest standing body of water in town. Follow the trails that encircle the beaver pond for an easy hike. Massacoe is a pretty flat location, since there are no hills or mountains in this area.
