South Greenwood

First opened in 1945, the 25 Auto Drive-In has remained a favorite for many two- and four-legged Greenwood residents. Tickets are only $5 per carload and the shows always run no matter the weather! There are three double-feature screens to choose from every weekend and it is suggested you come early to get the best view. The food here isn’t your typical theater fare.  There are 31 hearty menu items, including rib-eye sandwiches, mac and cheese balls, and even salads. Grab a blanket and a snack to share -- your pup will be pawsitively begging to come back!

Star Fort

Give your puppy some play time, and a history lesson, too, at historic Star Fort in Ninety-Six. Star Fort was home to two battles and held under siege during the Revolutionary War. Originally constructed in 1780, the fort is now preserved as a national historic site by the National Park Service. There is an education trail with informative markers along the path, which point out the historic significance of various parts of the fort. In addition to acres of walking and education trails, there is also an equestrian trail and a fishing pond for you and pup to enjoy. Make sure to check the park website or call ahead to confirm the pond is open before heading off!

Baker Creek State Park

Baker Creek State Park encompasses 1,305 acres of beautiful McCormick countryside, just outside of Greenwood County. The park is built on the beautiful 71,100-acre Lake Thurmond, in the Old 96 District. Your pup will love lying on the dog-friendly beach and cooling off in the water. Baker Creek hosts over 10 miles of scenic trails. These trails are considered to be some of the best for mountain biking in the Carolinas! If a 10-mile trail is too much for your pupper, you may want to check out the two additional (much shorter) nature trails. Your fur-iend will be happy to know there are convenient campgrounds within the park (and hot showers too)!

Irvin Pitts Memorial Park

Irvin Pitts Memorial Park is located about 20 miles north of Greenwood, in the small town of Ware Shoals. The picturesque view of the Saluda and close riverfront access make this park a pawsitively perfect place to wet your paws. There are picnic shelters, grills, and benches, making it a favorite location for picnicking and birthday parties. Pitts Park is home to many species of ducks and other wildlife. There is even a webpage dedicated to the birds that call this park home! Many people and pets love swimming here, but use caution if you decide to -- the rocks can create strong undercurrents in certain areas.
