The city of Gresham, Oregon, is located in the Multnomah County and is one of the suburbs of Portland. Gresham has, however, grown to a respectable size and has, according to the latest census, a population of 105,594. The sprawling city is also filled with pets. Oregon is one of the most pet-friendly states in the country, and many Gresham families own a cat, a dog or both.

The voice of the Gresham community of dog lovers is vocal and after a long wait Gresham finally has its first off-leash dog park. The city council has built a small dog run in the Main Street Park. While the dog park is not much more than a strip of grass surrounded by a fence, it is the first victory in the war for more dog-friendly amenities in Gresham.

If the Main Street Park project yields positive effects, the council is willing to update the park or expand with a second off-leash dog park. Enterprising members of the community have already started to raise funds for Paw Walk, an off-leash dog park with sections for different sizes of dogs combined with a public dog training course.

To enjoy a more rustic scenery, dogs, and their owners can follow the Springwater Corridor trail where countless natural and cultural treasures await. Pet owners that are on a trip can stay in one of the bountiful pet-friendly hotels such as the Pony Soldier Inn, Rodeway Inn & Suites Gresham, Super 8 Gresham and Holiday Inn Portland-Gresham.
