Grymes Hill is located in the northeast part of Staten Island, New York. This neighborhood is located on a hill and boasts spectacular views of Staten Island and the surrounding waterways. Grymes Hill is considered to be a very exclusive residential neighborhood, with some very expensive homes. Two colleges are located in this area, Wagner College and St. John's University, both with extensive, picturesque grounds.

The community has many services, including shops and restaurants, located in a commercial area within walking distance for many Grymes Hill residents. The weather is usually cooperative for foot travel on Staten Island with an average climate of approximately 200 sunny days per year. There are, however, rainy and overcast days, and in the winter, some snow is possible, due to the area's northern, coastal location. Check the forecast before venturing out in case you need a warm jacket, or an umbrella, and be aware that severe weather can occur along the northeast Atlantic seaboard due to storms and weather systems.

Grymes Hill is unique in the New York area in that it is built on a large hill. This neighborhood contains the second highest point on Staten Island, with an elevation of 310 feet above sea level.  This provides spectacular views of the lower York Bay and the Narrows, but also requires some climbing on walks through the neighborhood, due to changes in elevation and steep terrain. The area is known for its serpentine green rock, natural to the area, and its likewise serpentine roads. Lots of winding walks with steep inclines in the area are great if you are trying to wear out an energetic dog, but be prepared for some work. The area also features two large college grounds and a large cemetery which provide natural green areas for residents. This community is made up of predominantly single-family homes, with some condos and apartment complexes. Homes usually have large properties with mature landscaping and often feature amenities like pools. Overall, the area has large trees and many green spaces and natural areas giving it a very park-like feel.
