Harbor is an unincorporated community in Curry County. It is situated on the banks of the Chetco River, right across from Brookings. While much of the Oregon Coast receives its fair share of fog, rain, and mist, the warmer weather in this area has earned it the nickname “Oregon’s Banana Belt.” Local pups not only get to benefit from the pawsome climate, they also get to revel in the gorgeous scenery. With the pristine beaches to the west and the Siskiyou Mountains to the east, this place is something to behold. Unfurtunately, it does not have its own veterinary clinic, but canine care is just a bone's throw away in Brookings.

If your pup needs to burn some energy, take a trip to the McVay Rock State Recreation Site. It’s a little off the beaten path, but those who know it’s there absolutely love it! The grassy bluff above the beach is home to the area’s only fenced in dog park. Your fur baby can ditch his leash and run around to his heart’s content against the backdrop of seascapes and mountains. After he’s finished playing with his four legged friends, clip on his leash and mosey down to the pebble beach so he can dance in the water.

No wonder dogs love Harbor!

Sporthaven Beach is a great spot to spend some time with your four legged pal. It’s nestled on a patch of land that sits between the harbor and the ocean. Unlike many of the beaches in the area, it is not rocky. This makes it a pupular destination for two legged and four legged beach goers and surfers. Your pooch can romp around in the waves or just stroll along the sand. The beach runs a couple miles, so she’ll have plenty of room to roam. As you walk your pup, keep your eyes open for grey whales. They are frequently spotted just off the coast.

There is plenty to see and do in this Brookings neighborhood. Just minutes away from Harbor, this area is home to Azalea Park. A favorite spot among the locals, this beautiful park is brimming with fragrant azaleas, and often hosts community events. Walk, run, or jog with your pooch around the paved pathways, then cool down in one of the garden areas. If your pup prefers to spend time near the ocean, pop over to Chetco Point Park. Meander down the foliage lined path and over the wood bridge to enjoy some puptacular scenery. Or stroll around the sandy beach and check out the tidepools.

The Alfred A. Loeb State Park is just 15 minutes east of Harbor in the outskirts of Brookings. This enchanting park should not be missed. Nestled on the banks of the crystal clear Chetco River, and inside the fragrant Myrtlewood Forest, it will make you feel miles away from civilization. As your dog walks along the Riverview Nature Trail, he’ll enjoy a variety of sights and smells. The river has several pawsome swimming holes, so toss a stick in the water and watch him paddle around to his heart’s content. As you're having fun, keep your eyes peeled, you may be lucky enough to see some river otters.
