Downtown Hartford has a plethora of fine restaurants. Dish Bar & Grill at 900 Main Street is one of the fine restaurants with a patio designed for you and your dog. The menu runs from the simple to the more exotic. Your dog will be treated with the courtesy of a customer. Water is also provided to you and to your dog. It’s a good stop, especially if you are travelling to Hartford. Another pawesome downtown spot is Colt Park. This park of over 100 acres is a short drive from Main Street with entrances off of Wethersfield Ave. This historic park will give you and your dog a chance to walk off that good meal on one of the miles of walking trails.

Eighteen miles north of Hartford is the East Windsor Dog Park located at 20 Reservoir Ave. This one-acre fenced and grassy dog park is just the ticket for some off-leash fun. The park has some nice shade and benches. Don’t forget to bring water, though. There is no water onsite. There is a separate enclosure for small dogs. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Rules for the park and other information can be found on the city website. Dogs and people of all stripes come to bark and talk at East Windsor Dog Park, a great opportunity for socialization for both human and canine.

Behind the Rocks is a neighborhood in south Hartford. This neighborhood has several parks for dogs to enjoy some on-leash walks. Pope Park is located at 30 Pope Drive, and is almost 80 acres of urban parkland. Dogs can walk on the many trails on leash. There are picnic tables so dog and companion can grab a lunch or snack before heading home. Also in this neighborhood is Thomas J. Hyland Memorial Park. Entrance to this park is at 3 Fairfield Avenue. Sports are pawpular at Hyland Park and there are many open spaces to walk on-leash. This 51-acre park dominates the Behind the Rocks neighborhood.

This popular neighborhood is home to Riverside Park. This park has 51 acres fronting the Connecticut River. Access to the park is at 20 Leibert Road. There are miles of walking trails for you and your dog to explore on leash. The walking trails are well-marked and range in length and ability. Some are tough, so go easy if you and your dog aren’t used to a hard workout. Don’t forget your water! There are numerous places to picnic in this park. Bring your fishing pole, too. A great way to spend a fall day in Connecticut -- fishing with your dog!

This neighborhood borders the City of West Hartford. Elizabeth Park is located at 1561 Asylum Ave. in West Hartford. Its 100 acres bridge the boundary line. This historic park has numerous walking trails, and welcomes dogs on-leash. It is open from sunrise to sunset. The gardens are rich with colorful flowers. Dogs are asked to not go into the flower beds (of course). A stone’s throw away from the park is the dog-friendly restaurant The Elbow Room. This restaurant has outdoor dining and is located at 986 Farmington Ave. The menu has simple fare. Great stop for a lunch or dinner after that enchanting walk among the flowers.
