If it’s country quiet you and your canine companion crave, Holbrook is the place to be. This beautiful Norfolk County town, located less than a half-hour drive from the big city buzz of Boston, has some wonderful sights to for you and barking buddy to enjoy.

The Holbrook Town Forest is really something to behowld; you’ve got 7 miles of trails to trek in this 115-acre parcel of protected peace. This nature reserve is an area of environmental concern, as there are many endangered species living there, so it’s important to keep Fido on a leash and to stick to the marked out trails. Also don’t forget to bring waste bags.

Nihtila Farm is another country livin' gem for you and four-legged tag-along to enjoy; this functioning farm offers all sorts of activities for fresh air family fun! They’ve got pumpkin picking, hay rides, corn stalks and apples fresh from the orchard. The family that runs the place is known for their pleasant, friendly way with visitors and their furry friends, but if your tag-along pal is of a very excitable nature, this might not be the best place for him, as there are a lot of farmyard animals around.

Overall, Holbrook is a lovely place to relax and enjoy a slice of old-fashioned country life.

The biggest attraction in the lovely little town of Weymouth, located 8 miles from Holbrook, has got to be Stodders Neck Dog Park. This park really is grrrreat; it's got a 1-mile loop gravel track that’s wide so people and pups can pass each other comfortably. The dog park also has triple level water fountains for thirsty four-legged and two-legged creatures alike, as well as plenty of trash cans and waste bag dispensers. Off the main loop track, there are paths that lead down to a beautiful pebble beach, or up the hill to a forest area with another playing field at its crest. So splashing around, “tagging” trees, and playing with new friends are all on the cards here!

Pond Meadow Park has got to be the furst spot you and your furry friend visit in Braintree. This 320-acre conservation area has walking, biking, fishing areas, and is a real pupular spot for walkies. The park has a 1.5-mile looped gravel track which also has a bike lane, so best keep poochie on their leash here. There are also several trails that lead you through the forested areas (lots of tree "tagging" to be done here!) and trails leading down to the pond, where you’ll find people fishing. There are no waste bag dispensers, but there is a restroom by the main gate for the humans.

The people of Norfolk County sure do love their dogs and Randolph Dog Park proves that fur sure! This beautiful country park is located just 3 miles from Holbrook, and has some really great features. There’s a separate area for small and big dogs, an obstacle course featuring tunnels, boulders, high steps and tires, as well as heaps of toys, "Mutt Mitt" dispensers, and trash cans. Most of the surface is paved or wooded, and there are trails leading through the forested areas. The only drawback is that it can be a little muddy after rain, and there can be bugs in the warmer times. Overall, this community run, non-profit park is a great place to visit!

There’s so much to doggy do in Dedham, MA, located just 14 miles from Holbrook. One of the nicest features of the town is the Dedham Recreation Park, which has lots of great facilities for the two-legged visitors, such as a baseball field and tennis and basketball courts. The real gem, though, is the excellent dog park! The dog park can be reached by following one of the hiking trails through the larger park. Here, you'll find a laid-back community of dog owners who would love to welcome you and Fido to the pack! The surface of the park is predominately wood-chip, and there are lots of nooks and crannies your floor-sniffing friend can explore while you relax on the benches scattered around. There is no separate area for small dogs, and you'll need to bring your own waste bags.

The first place you’ve gotta go in Abington is the beautiful Island Grove Park. This 11-acre island park is surrounded by the 35-acre Island Grove Pond. It is known locally as “the crown jewel of Abington.” There are plenty of trails winding around the tall pines and wonderful views of the pond (which is particularly lovely in the fall). Dogs must be kept on-leash at all times, and there are certain areas they are not allowed, but these are clearly signposted. During the summer, the park occasionally shows films on a big screen for a small fee, and also serves refreshments. Overall, this is a puptastic spot to sample the laid-back Norfolk County lifestyle. Plus, Abington is just a skip and a hop away from Holbrook -- 6 miles away, to be exact!
