This dog-friendly town is near the Saco River, and is a great place to spend the day with your pup. The California Fields Wildlife Area, owned by the Poland Springs Company and through a partnership with The Nature Conservatory, offers this pristine wildlife area to the community, for all to share. Take your pup for a walk in their fenced dog-walking area, hike the miles of well-groomed trails, or plan a day to just relax and go fishing in their stocked trout ponds. Dogs are welcome throughout this entire area. They also have great open fields dedicated to kite flying! No restrooms or water fountains are available on-site, so make sure to plan accordingly.

Hollis is a town near the Saco River in Maine.  Here you will find a beautiful conservation location to enjoy with your pup.  The Indian Summer Preserve is an 81-acre preserve, known for its quiet, less-traveled trails. You can hike for three miles and then cool off with a dip in the many local swimming holes on the Saco River waterfront. Your pup would love to hike to the peninsula with your lunch and snacks and relax at the picnic table overlooking the Saco River. Best to keep your fur-iend on leash and bring plenty of water and clean-up bags.

South of Hollis Center is the town of Buxton where beautiful public parks await that are all dog-friendly. Try the Bonny Eagle Park, which has sandy beaches and shallow water to explore. Or walk Carroll Park’s 4.8-acre loop around its perimeter. Pleasant Point Park covers 60-acres with a one-mile river frontage. Lots of tire swings hang over the water where kids can jump in! Pups are also welcome to cool their paws here too! Hike the trails past ancient burial grounds of the early settlers, and have a picnic lunch on the benches located along the paths. All parks have porta-potties, but no available water, so be sure to bring your own.

The Waterboro Dog Park is located in the town of Waterboro, southeast of Hollis Center, and is the area’s only dog park. This single fenced in area in the woods is for both large and small dogs, so plan accordingly. There are no restroom facilities here. Afterwards, take a stroll around Friendship Park where you will find beach volleyball and other sports fields for Fido stretch his legs. And Gobiel Park at Little Ossippee is the spot to be when its hot. Cool off in the pond, and bring some burgers to grill on their cookout facilities.  Keep all pups on leash at Friendship and Gobiel Parks.

Visit the Bob Fay Memorial Park, in the neighborhood of North Waterboro, in the town of Waterboro, for some outdoor pawtastic adventure. Just south of Hollis Center, this dog-friendly park has a wonderful pond to fish and swim in, and cookout conveniences with barbeque grills and picnic tables. Porta-potties are on-site. Another smaller park is Victoria Lane Park where you will find relaxation at its finest. A playground for the kiddies is here, but otherwise, there is just some open space to enjoy nature. How about packing a picnic lunch to share and don’t forget to bring lots of water!

Northeast of Hollis Center, you will find the town of Limington. Discover the Little Ossipee River Trails with its pet-friendly 2,200 acres. Hike the miles of trails of this preserve which follow along the Saco River. Some areas may be steep, so plan ahead. Better for the smaller or elderly pups is Jagolinzer Preserve with its 20-acres and scenic loop trail that passes the old dam and the Saco River. There is no leash law, but your pup must be under voice control. Be sure to pack a nice picnic basket, water and clean-up bags to keep these areas unsoiled.
