If you are willing to travel just 16 miles from Hopewell Center, you will discover that you can step back in time at the Heritage Rail Trail County Park. This massive park spans 176 acres and also provides access to the beginning of the 25-mile Heritage Rail-Trail that connects Pennsylvania and Maryland. John Rudy Park is a 6-acre park that is fenced in so that Fido can get off his leash and play. There are two areas to play in, just in case your pal feels a little overwhelmed by the size of the park. You can walk the multiple trails if your pup doesn’t mind staying on a leash. This well-maintained park comes complete with all the amenities you’d expect from a pawesome park. Cleaning supplies are readily available, as well as water fountains for you and your dog. There’s also plenty of seating for you. Twenty-three miles is all you have to drive to get to this great outdoor space!

Northwest Lancaster County River Trail is the Rails-to-Trails conservation effort located just 25 miles from Hopewell Center. This is broken up into many different parts, but one part includes the beautiful Susquehanna River. You will see relics of the old rail line along the way. This includes an iron furnace, quarry, and even canal locks. It is a fascinating look into the thing that brought this region so much life. You’ll love the serene feel of the trail system, and your pup will love that there is so much to see and smell along the way! Don’t forget your water and waste bags.

It is true that Gettysburg is about an hour from Hopewell Center, but there are several things that you can do with your dog in this city. The local favorite is the Haunted Gettysburg Tours. As long as your canine companion is on a leash, he can join you for a tour of the city. There are several time frames for this tour. You can go on the early tour, or take the more informed adult tour if you aren’t scared of the dark. Afterward, go for an on-leash stroll at the nearby Alumni Park, or grab a bite at one of Gettysburg’s many Fido-friendly restaurants.

Although it’s technically located in another state, 24 miles is all that separates you from a cute little dog park nestled away from the bustle of traffic. The Ma & Pa Dog Park is just the right size for Fido to run and play with all his new fur buddies. There is one wide-open space that is broken down into three parts. Each section has a gate that can be separated off if need be. For the most part, it is all left open so that there is plenty of room. There are drinking fountains, for both the dogs and the dogs.
