Members pay an annual fee for use of the dog park. Daily passes can also be purchased. This grassy, fenced, off-leash dog park has water, benches, and agility equipment. The main park has picnic sites, and on-leash places for dog and person to walk. Quality Inn at 1701 N. Jefferson Way has dog-friendly rooms, and welcomes up to two dogs of any size for an additional $15 per dog per night.

West Des Moines
West Des Moines is 22 miles north of Indianola. Raccoon River Dog Park, located at 2500 Grand Avenue, has 12 acres for off-leash exercise and socialization. This dog park has a separate area for small and large dogs. The dog park has water, waste bags, and plenty of benches for the human companions. This dog park is by permit only. Annual passes are available as well as daily ones. Daily ones can’t be purchased on the weekend, though. Staybridge Suites, located at 6905 Lake Drive, has dog-friendly hotel rooms. Staybridge allows up to two dogs of no more than 80 pounds to stay for an additional $35.

Windsor Heights is a small town 24 miles north of Indianola. It is an Iowa farm town with a few unique shops and restaurants. Windsor Heights Dog Park is located at 6900 School Street. The surface of the dog park is a mixture of mulch and grass. There is a separate area for small and large dogs. A small creek runs adjacent to the dog park. There are a few scattered benches. A couple pieces of agility equipment give dogs the opportunity to run through tunnels, and up and over obstacles. This dog park is free and open to the public (though many visitors to this dog park throw some money into the donation bucket).

Runnells is 23 miles northeast of Indianola. Rover’s Ranch Dog Park & Training is located at 200 SE 108th Street. It is a privately-owned dog park and dog training business. A 6-month membership costs $100 and covers all the dogs in the household. The dogs at the Ranch have a beautiful outdoor off-leash area to run and socialize. Kiddie pools and agility equipment are used for fun and training. Training starts with puppy classes, and extends into all levels of obedience and even certification for therapy and service work. Boarding and daycare services are also available. The Ranch is in a country setting, but is close to the major city of Des Moines.

Altoona is located 24 miles north of Indianola. Altoona Dog Park is located at 851 17th Avenue SW. This dog park has separate fenced areas for small and large dogs. The entire dog park is about one acre with .10 acres devoted to the small dog site. The large flat surface is part grass and part mulch. There are a few benches, and there is water on-site.
