Jackson Township has a population of 54,856, and is named after Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States. Aside from its historical significance, this quaint locale is a furrific place to take your canine companion.
If you want to eat or get a cup of coffee with your fur buddy, you can visit Mona Lisa Pizza, Mangia Brick Oven Pizza and Rosko's Bagels & Waffles. All have dog-friendly outside patios where you can chow down together. You can also go camping with your pup at the Butterfly Camping Resort. Or try the Jackson AirBnB Rentals, where big dogs are allowed to stay at no extra charge. (Pet policies vary based on the host's preferences, though.)
In Jackson, you can find one of the Hurricane Harbor water parks where your dog might be allowed to go in. According to the official rules of the park, pets may be allowed on the property if are they properly checked into the onsite kennel located in the main parking lot.
While you're here, you must visit the Bunker Hill Bogs Recreation Area, where you will find sandy walking paths and trails. There are a couple of ponds here where some people fish. Dogs are allowed, but they must be on-leash. You can also hang our with your pup at Johnson Memorial Park. It has picnic tables, sports fields, restrooms, grills, and a dog park on-site.
If you're willing to travel a little bit further away from Jackson, in approximately 45 miles, you'll find the Echo Lake Park Dog Run. This securely fenced, doggie heaven is a really big park with lots of toys and tennis balls for your fur baby. In the summer, there's a water fountain; in winter, people bring jugs of water for the dogs. It has plenty of seating for the pet parents and more than enough space for the dogs to run and play. The park has plenty of shade for those sweltering summer days. Separate sections for small and large dogs are available, and poop bags are provided within the park as well.
