Jackson Heights is a neighborhood in the borough of Queens, NY, and will bring your outside dog-walking adventures to new heights! With over 100,000 people, its one of the most densely packed communities in Queens. Considering when the town changed its name in the 1950s, the 'heights' was added not due to the town's height, but because it was initially meant to be an exclusive neighborhood. It doesn't look like that turned out, as there are even more dogs then there were people intended to live here!

But with so many dogs, where do humans bring them to walk and play with them? One answer would be the Jackson Heights Canina Recreational Wonderland, a free-membership park that offers separate dog runs for small and large dogs, fenced-in, off-leash areas, double-gated fences, clean-up stations, and doggy water fountains. To become a member, just sign up on the website.

Running and playing would sure tire any dog out, let alone human, but if you're still not done and need even more places to play, then Jackson Heights has you covered. From Bulova Park and Gorman Playground to Travers Park and One Room Schoolhouse Park, Fido will never get bored in this busy neighborhood.

Astoria Heights is the northern neighbor of Jackson Heights, and although it also has heights in the name, the only higher thing it has going for it is that its a higher latitude. Take a stroll to Ditmars Park, a small wooded area with playgrounds, a walking trail for leashed dogs,  benches and trash bins. Next, head to Carlos R. Lillo Park, a small square that's perfect for getting out to the fresh air. There are benches here for relaxing, and a water fountain for thirsty people and pups- just be sure to bring a bowl. The Elmjack Little League Park is also dog-friendly, but only allows dogs into the enclosed baseball fields when there isn't a game or players on site.

The Steinway neighborhood is the western neighbor of Jackson Heights, and is located across from Michael's Cemetary. Dog-lovers flock to this community to check out Max Bratwurst Und Bierauthentic first, a casual eatery selling authentic dishes. Dogs are allowed off-leash in the outdoor seating area, and even have access to treats, water, and dog beds! Who can say no to a place that treats dogs so well? After eating, head over to  Sean's Place, a small 1.5-acre park with a little trail and an enclosed tennis court. Dogs must remain on a leash at the park, but are allowed off-leash inside the tennis court when unoccupied. They also have access to trash bins and water fountains.

The lovely Ravenswood neighborhood is 4 miles from Jackson Heights, and well worth the visit. Dog-lovers from all around come to Rainy Park, the largest park in Ravenswood that's been dubbed "one of the prettiest parks in the system". This dog-friendly park allows all dogs to come play as long as they remain on a leash and within the company of a human. Check out the waterfront promenade with scenic views of the East River, and two open fields that are perfect for a game of fetch. Afterward, Aliada Restaurant would be the next best stop to bring Fido as it serves Greek meals to a dog-friendly outdoor seating area, with complimentary water and dog treats.

" Mark is the best dog walker I’ve had so far in this area, and they are all very good. He just does extra things and even remembers my first name which sounds like something given but it is not. He is my preferred Walker!"
