Joint Base San Antonio – Fort Sam Houston is part of the largest joint base in the Department of Defense. In 2005, the base northeast of downtown San Antonio, originally called Fort Sam Houston, was combined with Lackland AFB and Randolph AFB to form the three branches of the JBSA. And luckily for dog owners, the JBSA – Fort Sam Houston is surrounded by lots of pawsome spots for dog-friendly outdoor recreation, restaurants and events.
If you’re looking for some quality outdoor time with your pooch, JBSA – Fort Sam Houston has the spot for you. Salado Creek Park is dotted with huge live oak trees that provide some much-needed shade from the hot Texas sun. The 13-acre park has lots of benches and picnic areas with grills. Take a walk on the park’s path that meanders next to Salado Creek. The park also has a playground, volleyball court and fishing access to the creek. Leashed pups are welcome throughout the park. Be sure to bring drinking water and cleanup bags.
In the event that your pet needs medical attention or just a yearly check-up, JBSA-Fort Sam Houston has a veterinarian clinic to care for your furry friend.
There’s lots of tail-wagging fun to be had with your four-legged friend at JBSA – Fort Sam Houston and the surrounding area!
Hi, my name is Gabby. I'm in the Air Force and going to college part-time. I grew up with Labradors and had the experience of feeding, giving medication, walking, and the tasks of having a dog. I definitely look forward to helping you and your furry friends!
