Kansas City gets its name from the Kansas River. The city sits near the point where the Missouri and Kansas Rivers meet, from which arises various recreational activities and areas for the use of residents and their pets.

The Kansas City Parks and Recreation manage approximately 12,000 acres of parkland. This is more than enough room for hundreds of unique parks, many of which welcome canine (and feline!) visitors in their spaces. Stop by Loose Park with your pup to smell the roses, or admire the artwork at Sculpture Park.

If your dog needs a place to stretch his legs, bring him by the Wayside Waifs Bark Park. Only members are allowed within the park, but memberships can be purchased at any time, with all proceeds going towards the Wayside Waifs shelter. This Park features 5 acres of play space, plenty of trees, and covered pavilions for human guests.

Penn Valley Off-Leash Dog Park is another place where dogs can play off-leash, allowing them to get to know each other and interact freely. This fenced-in area is great for some romping and socialization, though no matter where you take your pup in Kansas City, you are both sure to find an activity that suits you.
