The town of Little Compton is located in Newport County near the Sakonnet River. This historic coastal community is within a 20-mile drive of several outdoor recreational facilities and trails. There is a veterinarian located in the East Bay area when you need to seek professional attention for your pup.

Go exploring with your furry friend in Sapowet Marsh along the northern border of Little Compton. This delightful wetland is adjacent to Sawpowet Point. Walk through the reeds or head to the beach for a picnic by the water here. Dogs are welcome and must be on leash between March 1 and August 15.

When you want to go on a hike with your four-footed friend, head to the Pardon Gray Preserve. There's a trailhead parking area off Main Road in Tiverton, just seven miles north of Little Compton. Dogs are permitted to join you as long as they're on a leash or under your voice control. Make sure to stay on the marked trails and clean up any messes.

Take your pup to Fogland Beach during the off-season. Dogs on a leash are welcome to visit this black stone beach with you between Labor Day and Memorial Day.  Here, you and your pal can walk along the water or explore the nature trails in the conservation area.

When you want to explore, head about three miles northwest on Route 179 to the Weetamoo Woods Trailhead parking area. This 750-acre nature preserve has over seven miles of trails. You can bring your furry friend with you to hike in this area as long as he's on a leash or under your control. Make sure to stay on the marked trails and clean up any droppings.

Between the months of October and March, take a short 12-mile drive to the Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Massachusetts. Dogs on a leash can hike along the water with you here.
