In the small suburban city of Longwood, Florida, people sure love their dogs. Longwood has a total population of 13,657 citizens (2010 estimate), and there is a large amount of dog related services, amenities, and communities in town. For instance, Longwood is home to two exclusive dog shelters.
Preferably, dogs end up in the care of loving families instead of shelters. Longwood is an excellent place to own a dog as there are a lot of things to do in town. The city has its own off-leash dog park, the Longwood Arbor Dog Park. Small dogs and large dogs are kept separate to provide a safe environment. The park offers fresh water fountains, benches, ample parking spots and plenty of trees that provide much-needed shade.
And then there is Wekiva Island, a staple for Longwood locals. Wekiva Island is the starting point for those who want to partake in some canoe or kayak action. But don't worry, if the water isn't your spot, it is also possible to relax and listen to the music as there are regularly festivals hosted on the island. The best part, however, is that dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash.
Dining out with your furry friend is also a possibility in Longwood. There are several restaurants that allow dogs on the patio, including Connelley's Irish Pub (Irish cuisine), Mykonos (Greek cuisine), Hurricane Grill & Wings (Pacific cuisine) and Cafe Paisano (Italian cuisine).
